Re: Skipping nights
I never believed I snored--until I woke up in the middle of the night
in a motel room, surrounded by my family--laughing their butts off.

Re: Skipping nights
Lilbean,
please wear it EVERY TIME you sleep. Your friends wouldn't want to wake up to find you dead, anymore than you would want to die. Please check Deadliest Catch website. Recently (last season) one of the guys from the fleet died of sleep apnea, he was 35 I think. His mother had died at an early age too, from same disease. Don't let it happen to you!
You can educate your friends and perhaps save lives too.

Re: Skipping nights
Reminds me of a discussion I had last time I had my hair done. The woman that does my hair has a couple of married friends. You people by today's standards. The husband was in his late 20s ..he had sleep apnea...no other health problems...he didn't like to sleep with the machines so it lay unused by the bed and it was more hit and miss if he used the machine
He died in his sleep. Just quit breathing one night and didn't start backup. Wife found him stone cold dead when she woke up next to him. Late 20's with 2 little kids and a wife left alone.

Re: Skipping nights
I definitely won't be skipping nights in my own bed. I'm still getting used to it, bu it's getting better each night. I'm going to Hershey park Friday and staying over night for girl scouts. It'll be my first outing with other people that aren't my mom to have to sleep with the machine in the room. My mom said its not that loud, but I personally think its really loud. It's not the machine that makes noise it's the holes in the mask that lets the air out that makes the most noise.
Re: Skipping nights
Perhaps you should discuss the issue with your scout leader, but I think you will find that bringing and using, equipment that is needed for your health is strongly encouraged. Remember that the mask is very close to your ears, so it will sound louder to you than to anyone else.lilbean95 wrote:I definitely won't be skipping nights in my own bed. Re: Skipping nights
If you think the noise will bother someone (or yourself), you could bring a small fan, aim it at the wall if you don't like the breeze, and it will "mask" any unwanted exhale noise...lilbean95 wrote:...My mom said its not that loud, but I personally think its really loud. I know it's hard when you're young and you don't want to feel different than everybody else, but the habits you develop in the early stages of xPap therapy will last you a lifetime. You are never too young to start GOOD habits.
I wish you the best of luck finding what is going to work for you on those times when you are away from home.

Re: Skipping nights
If I understand correctly, Scouting is all about education, health and self-esteem.
I can't think of a better opportunity to share with your friends.
The learning doesn't have to be limited to the program materials.

A little breathing noise never bothered Dart Vader. Just threaten them with your light sabre..... and you can conquer the known universe.lilbean95 wrote:I definitely won't be skipping nights in my own bed. Re: Skipping nights
My trip went great. Except I woke up with the hose wrapped around my head and neck. That was the first time it happened. I ended up having a sleepover too and that went great also. I woke up with a sore on my nose though, right where my upper lip connects to my nose.
Re: Skipping nights
If I was in those shoes, Id be worried that something would happen to the machine. Like it might accidently get stepped on, or or otherwise broken.

Re: Skipping nights
Only issue I had was the machine was sitting on the bedside table and people were putting drinks near it. When I had the sleepover, I slept on the floor and I just put the machine under a table so noone could step on it.
