Where it hits me, it crosses over my ears, and during the night they'll work up over them and fold it down and squish it up and they're really getting sore.... I have to sleep with ear plugs too because my roommates tend to be very loud all night, and last night I had to take them out just because my overall ear hurts so much. If I do the straps any looser, the mask leaks. Is this just a bad fit for the head gear? I need a small size mask, but somehow the head gear ended up being a medium. I'm all the way on the smallest setting for it and even then I just barely make it....
Good morning awritersmind1!
I've been giving this some thought, re-read the thread and tried my headgear, a medium, back on. From what you describe, you mean the lower straps working their way up, right? Also, you say you are on the smallest setting, meaning to me that the straps are cinched in as far as they will go, or do you mean that the straps are let out as far as they will go and you have a minimum amount of velcro left to attach. Regardless, I don't believe a smaller headgear will solve the problem you are having. If the headgear is smaller, those lower straps will only ride higher up still squishing your poor ears. On the other hand, a larger headgear would sit farther down on your head and the lower straps should clear the bottoms of your ears just fine. Just my $0.02. Woke up at some point during the night thinking about this.

Okay. The parts number for the Large headgear for the Quattro FX is # 61738 (L)

You might also want to contact Karen at padacheeks and try hashing out your problem w/her. She's mighty darn good at coming up w/a soft, comfortable padding solution to most mask/headgear problems.

This is the best answer out of all.

Karen makes a soft fleece to cover the straps. It is so nice and soft, you will love it. You won't even feel it on your ears.

I changed (from med) to large mask and headgear and it solved the problem.

Woke up at some point during the night thinking about this.
Sorry the thought woke you up, but I appreciate the insight!

I think the lower strap works it's way up, and then the upper strap ends up shifting too and squishing down the top of my ear as well. I'm always half asleep still when I wake up and they're like this and I'm just trying to find a comfortable way. It's like "Oww..." when I shift them. I have it on the tightest it will go setting because it is quite big on me. I have to wrap the straps so far around the back to tighten it to be small enough that I'm like out of anything to attach it to. So I guess it would be they are cinched in as far as possible.

I thought the only difference between the "for her" was the strap color, but there's mention on cpap.com of the "circle" in the back being lower so you can wear a ponytail. I feel like that part of my not for her mask is snug with my hair (and let's not talk about the weird things it does to my hair...) but I wasn't offered a "for her" option and honestly if it was just color would have picked navy anyhow
