sleepweaver

Post by W7SOT » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:03 am

I am looking for other that have used this mask, wondering how good it really does work? - and wondering of an all cloth mask is really as nice as they seem to be? I am asking for my wife, who has an issue with claustrophobia, and took her a long time to get the point where she could use the mask all night long- her DME ordered some sleepweavers, and will let her know when they come in.

Was the change a positive one for other users? I have also heard that you actually use a lower pressure with these - if that is the case, on average, how much lower?

thanks for anyones input - want her to end up with something that is going to work for her at the 3-month new mask mark.

If it works for you it is one of the most comfortable masks made, IMHO.
The caveat is if it works for you -- leaks can be an issue and for most folks it either works or it doesn't -- no in between and no real adjusting it to tweak it and get it to work.

It is still probably my primary mask of choice (its the one I've used for far and away the longest time) but it is currently being pushed by the Aloha -- I'm using the Aloha about 50/50 with the sleepweaver.

I run straight CPAP and a fixed pressure and made no adjustments with the mask.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of the Elan -- Sleepweaver's new mask.

The Elan is available starting today at our host site. (cpap.com)
I ordered one already--in hopes that this will finally be THE ONE;
I've got my fingers crossed (as much as my webbing allows)

ok - she is using a nasal mask now - it is one of the mirage masks - but does not have that plastic piece that goes up the forehead - and has not any issues with leaks that we have heard - so maybe this will work for her - if not,, she will still have her current mask to go back to. She uses a fixed pressure of 18.

Thanks for the info.

I've written a whole bunch of posts about my experience with the SleepWeaver - positive and negative. You might care to do a search.

Overall - I LOVE my SW - my AHIs are the same as with any of my other masks - always below 1.0 - unless they're skewed by the high leak rates. No matter how well the mask sits, with no (or minimal) leaks to begin with, my data always shows the median as around 24, with spikes of up to 50-ish.

I love my SW because it's incredibly comfortable, even if I'm smooshing my face into the pillow when sleeping on my stomach. It's cool in warmer weather (my first choice when we go camping). It's easy to clean - just wash and rinse with warm water and Ivory or Dr. Bronners in the morning - it's dry in a few hours.

Things to watch for - I find that making sure my face is very clean and no moisturizer is present where the mask sits gives less leaks. Don't have the top strap too tight - the lower on your nose you can make that without leaks, the better the mask will fit everywhere else for the night. The SW works better if it's washed after every use.

IMHO it's well worth the effort if you can make it work for you.

Cheers,
xena

It's been a LONG time since I contributed here(a good thing), but I am looking for anyone who tries the new sleepweaver elan changing from a nasal pillow type mask of any kind. I feel the description makes it sound like a welcome improvement, but I've become so accustomed to nasal pillows, I fear the claustrophobic feeling of a mask-type apparatus over my nose.
Any input would be gratefully appreciated.
TIA
Mac

I use a Swift FX and Swift LT - both nasal pillow masks, as well as the SleepWeaver.

As far as claustrophobic goes - the SW actually feels like even less of a mask than nasal pillows on my face because there's no silicone on my skin (or anywhere on the mask), just feather light fabric and soft, minimal straps.

Read my post above for other info - for comfort the SW can't be beaten IMHO.

The only reason I don't wear it every night is because I still can't ditch the leaks to my satisfaction (maybe the Elan will fix that), so swap between the three.

Cheers,
xena

I was so disappointed that I was one of the ones who couldn't control the leaks. I think my face is either not shaped right or the SW is too big. If your DME lets you try it then go for it!

I too await the feedback on the Elan. I love my TrueBlue EXCEPT for the forehead bar. It's almost like I don't even need it. For me all the forehead bar does is keep the headgear in place (probably what it's designed to do!) But it just seems to get in the way when I sleep because I keep the straps so loose.

Recently tried the SW advanced - felt very claustrophobic and generally, I'm not a claustrophobic type person. I wasn't able to give it a fair try for leaks b/c I couldn't keep it on long enough. Thinking that the Elan might be better.

I bought the new sleepweaver advanced to try because I have a lot of trouble sweating into the silicon masks and also with the nasal pillows. My AHI was similar to with the nasal pillows and leaks have been controllable. (As with the Mirage nasal mask, I get some leakage into my eyes, but less with the sleepweaver.) The fabric is much more comfortable than the silicon. What I haven't liked is that it's hard to get in and out of the headgear without undoing the straps. That means a new adjustment every night. A few nights ago, I got things too tight and woke with grooves from the cheek straps and a sore on my nose. Didn't think that a nose sore would be possible from the fabic mask, but I must have a sensitive spot after an infection from the silicon mask. So now I'm back to the nasal pillows until my nose heals up. I actually felt less claustrophobic with the sleepweaver and am looking forward to going back to it.
