Quattro FX Full Face straps hurting ears

Post by awritersmind1 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:25 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions for a way to cushion the straps. Where it hits me, it crosses over my ears, and during the night they'll work up over them and fold it down and squish it up and they're really getting sore.... I have to sleep with ear plugs too because my roommates tend to be very loud all night, and last night I had to take them out just because my overall ear hurts so much. If I do the straps any looser, the mask leaks. Is this just a bad fit for the head gear? I need a small size mask, but somehow the head gear ended up being a medium. I'm all the way on the smallest setting for it and even then I just barely make it....

i don't see how any cushion will help because you still have to strap it down. probably best to buy the right headgear. but go to the sizing page on cpap.com and make sure the mask is the right size first. quattro fx runs smaller than alot of masks.

heres why you got medium headgear: All Mirage Quattro Full Face CPAP Masks come packaged with a size Medium/Standard (61733) Headgear. Large or Small sizes can also be purchased separately

Yeah I was measured and the mask has to be a small. It was one the Dr. gave me so when I get the DME stuff straightened out I guess I'll have to tell them I need the small size headgear.

How long have you been wearing the headgear? I have a medium mask and medium headgear. What I have noticed over the last year is that the headgear stretches out. I have the same problem you describe and then I get a new mask and headgear there is no longer a problem with my ears...for a few months. If you feel that your mask is ok perhaps you could just purchase new headgear and see how that works. I have been wearing my current Quattro FX since late Jan and about a month ago it started bothering my ears. It's time for a new mask/headgear or just headgear.

I've only had the mask and head gear for about a month. It's just something about the way it hits me... I suppose I should sit in front of a mirror and see if I can come up with something better, but velcro and long hair are not a good match...

Is there really a difference between the "for her" line? They didn't have any for me to even try.

this is something i've been looking at. it looks like there is a difference in the plastic outsert that the straps hook to. the outsert and angle of the straps is also different between small and medium in the regular fx. the part numbers for his and hers are also different. for her comes in small and medium. regualar comes in small, medium and large. and of course the obvious pink strap for hers. it's best to go to cpap.com and look at the pictures and info for the hers and the regular one. pay attention to the outsert and the angle it comes off of the mask.

I just use the quattro fx when I'm congested, my small mask came with med headgear, it bothered my ears also, just hit in the wrong place. A small headgear worked out much better. Kathy

From what I was told, the For Her medium headgear is a little smaller than the medium in the black headgear. The mask is the same size though.

I have the regular one, and my mom has the for her one. Other than color, I can see no difference. My medium headgear is too big for me, so I compared it to my mom's for her head gear, and it is exactly the same size.

Here's my question. My DME told me that there is no small size head gear for the Quattro FX. Yet on ebay, there is an ad that shows small, medium, and large. What is correct? Is ebay selling something else, or did the DME lie to me? I've got my top straps so tight that any tighter and the velcro won't have anything to attach to. Once it stretches, I will have to add some velcro or modify it some how.

I also have a Mirage Liberty mask, with small head gear, and that one is also too big for me.

Hopefully the DME is not deliberately telling you something does not exist that I'm pretty sure does exist!! I have never tried the small headgear but I know I read on this forum in the past that others have acquired it. There were questions a while back about why a small mask was outfitted with a medium headgear.....and then I think the person was able to order a small headgear for the quattro FX.
Perhaps the DME is unaware of the the small headgear. Or perhaps just doesnt want to bother with something they do not regularly stock and thinks you can be easily put off. I would make a point of telling the DME that is is available on eBay and you will purchase it there if the DME can't order it for you
see what happens then....

Yup, yup. I use the Quattro FX Small which comes w/the Medium headgear. Our local Resmed rep gave me the "parts number" for the Small headgear for the FX. Number 61734 (S). Give this part number to your DME provider and ask them to order it for you. That is what I did.
