new user - need help with sleepyhead on mac

Post by vinvin » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:22 am

Hello,

I am newly diagnosed with OSA and have started on CPAP therapy. I would like to monitor my therapy and have downloaded sleepyhead for mac but cannot get it to import any data. If anyone could give me some help I would be very grateful - thanks!

This is my main Sleepyhead window http://balkanky.us/Sleep.jpg
On the right side is a picture of a SD memory card, click it and that should start the import process.

What step are you at?
The most common problem for any user is that they go too far into the SD card trying to import.
Need to stop at the drive letter where the SD card sits. If anything other than the drive letter is showing up then gone too far.

Thanks for your responses. Here's what is happening: When I open sleepyhead and click on the import sd card icon on the right side of the screen, it asks me which location I want to import from. I click on new location, then click on "No name", which is the sd card device, but nothing seems to happen. There is a document that was created called "sleepyhead data," and in it there is a "layout" document, a "preferences" document, and a profile folder. Inside the profile folder, there are several other documents, but none of them seem to have any data. Any ideas?

What brand and model cpap machine are you using? Could you please add that bit of information to your profile equipment tab?

Normally once the SD card location is chosen then the import process begins and when complete it defaults to the most recent daily report. I have never used a Mac so hard for me to sort through issues that I haven't experienced. I was hoping someone who does use a Mac could offer ideas. There are many Mac users here using SleepyHead successfully.
So giving this post a bump up to hopefully get their attention. If you know for sure that you aren't accidentally choosing a folder in the SD card and not the drive letter where the SD card sits then I am out of ideas.

Can you provide a screenshot of the import dialog, please?
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

You selected the top level of the card ('root'), this is fine. I don't own a Mac (want to, but can't afford it ) so others might be able to help out even more. What I did find was this remark about the Mac writing to the card:

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... #Mac_Users

If, at all, it doesn't work, you could try to run the Windows version of SH in een virtual machine. I can fully recommend Oracle's free Virtual box, I have a large number of operating systems running in this tool. It is reliable, free, and also available for Mac:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Setup is as simple as one, two, three, so this might be your backup option if it doesn't work natively under OS-X.

Thanks, Hton, for the recommendation for Virtual box. I may end up trying that, especially if it's easy to set up. I love my mac, but am getting very frustrated with it right now!

You've got the newer model 60 with heated hose? SH does not yet support that model. There is an Encore product that does. I think if you PM Pugsy she will sent you a link.

So sorry I did not follow up better. Your screen shot image of what SH is reporting shows machine model 560....that means the 60 series machine (different from your chosen machine in your profile so I didn't catch the problem). There is a choice for that 60 series model in the equipment list.

SleepyHead is not yet compatible with the new 60 series machine.

You need EncoreBasic BUT it is not compatible with Macs...No Mac version at all. You will need some sort of Windows environment to use it. Check your private message box

All the Encore products are designed for Windows based computers. There are no Mac versions available.
I have zero experience with a Mac. So I am no help with the Windows environment part of it.

Right now the only software products that work with the new 60 series machines are EncoreBasic and Encore Pro 2.8.
EncoreBasic offers the exact same data as Pro without the bulk of Pro...so I am only recommending Basic.
I have both programs...I have a PR S1 machine...I have compared the 2 programs. Basic gives exactly the same reports. Nothing at all is lost. Basic is 20 MB in size...Pro is over 300 MB.. a no brainer choice.

Can I get a message in my inbox regarding EncoreBasic? Just ordered a 60 Series to replace my M series.

If you have any difficulty with Virtual Box, you can get Parallels 7 along with I think 10 other programs for the Mac in a $49 bundle package for 3 more days at:

http://www.mupromo.com/

With either program, you will need to install Windows inside the virtual disk of course.

I run Windows in Parallels 7 on a MacBook Pro and it runs great! Gives you two computers in one!

Regards, Nate

Thanks for the suggestion, Nate. I am right now trying to install Windows on my mac through Boot Camp, which comes with the computer. We'll see how it works!
