YAY

Post by insylem » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:07 am

Hey
Ever since Dr put me back on 10, I think im doing MUCH better then I was on 8.
Last night as I fell asleep, I could feel the pressure holding my airway open! I woke up after about 8 hours or so. I dont have a data card so I cannt look at it. I ordered one online so I have to wait till it gets here.

ALSO
I seem to be dreaming alot more now that im on Cpap ! I think thats a good sign
And I dont wake up during the night at all (That I know of anyway)

It may be a 'six of one, half a dozen of the other' thing; as many folks here report one or the other.
If they didn't remember dreams before, it may mean they were not getting enough REM to dream at all.
Like the reference in RestedGal's post, my experience is indeed the very opposite.
I had loads of dreams before cpap, waking up with memory of a very strenuous dream sequence.
Now, hardly ever, and the dreams I remember are rarely the frantic quests I had before.
We are all different--the reasons are different as well.

I happen to be one of those people whose OSA is markedly more severe in REM stage sleep. Used to dream a lot but after I seemed to have developed OSA...no dreams remembered at all because I wasn't ever in REM sleep long enough to really do much. Apnea events would immediately start happening (AHI of 53 in REM) and disrupt the sleep cycle and bounce me out of REM.

Since CPAP therapy...I do now dream and remember them ....some of them anyway. They say we don't remember dreams unless we happen to wake up during one. So the absence of remembering a dream could simply mean very effective therapy.
If someone remembers a lot of dreams each night it might point to some sleep disruption still.
If only minor remembering and person feels great, well rested and all that...I wouldn't worry about it.

So like anything with OSA...YMMV and main thing is anything to excess might indicate a problem.
Remembering a few dreams here and there is probably not a critical issue but in excess it might indicate a lot of arousals so it might need to be investigated.

I think with me it was just me wakeing up right after a REM sequence. I dont remember many dreams at all , mostly all I can remember is that I was dreaming, and like the OP said when I wake up in the morning its normaly I remembering haveing dreampt just before waking up. I dont recall having been awaken during the night though. Once I get my card back and put it back in the machine, I can look at my data again. Ive been feelign well all day, more enegery today. I noticed though that as I fell asleep it felt like the air from the cpap was holding my throte open letting me breath! I think it's suposed to do that, isnt that the entire point? Well I fell asleep on my side, and woke up on my back. None of my dreams were like the dreams that I had when I was having a apnea event during rem. Those dreams were not good or fun. I did not wake up gasping for air, thought I did streach and take a deep breath. Laid in bed a few minutes, checked the time (Wich is VERY difficult for me since I am very near sighted, the mask almost blocks the clock from being close enough to see, that and my nightstand is more of a coffe table by my bed so its at an akward height and angle. Can't wait to get my data card to see how its doing

Hi,

It would be fun to see what your AHI numbers look like. Being able to stay asleep for 8 hours is an accomplishment all by itself. I can tell from the tone of your writing that you are sharp and feeling well, which is icing on the cake.
