Post by jacks321 » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:50 pm

Hi I am waiting on delivery of a Resperonics optilife nasal pillows, and was wondering if anyone is currently using it, or has previous experience and could provide some feedback please. Jacks.

Hi Jacks321,

I used it a few years ago for several nights but couldn't get a good fit and had lots of leaks. It was uncomfortable for me, but may be okay for others.

Hated it....got it on a trade from another member because they couldn't get it to seal either. i even bought the other nasal part...still could not get it to seal.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Used it during titration study. They gave it to me afterwards. I hated it. Headgear too big for a small woman and wouldn't adjust down enough for me also just "too much stuff" on my face. Gave it away.

I used it for sometime back. It was the only nasal pillow mask my DME offered. I adjusted to it, but when I found that other nasal pillow masks were more comfortable I resigned it to bottom of masks.

I have a fat face and the headgear cut into cheeks making it uncomfortable, although like I said I used it for a period of time.

my wife got it and loves it. leaks for her are very minimum. this goes to show that my favorite mask may be your least favorite mask is very true. every mask is built to fit every head, but in practice every mask does not fit every head correctly. my personal mask is quattro fx that i have down to near zero leaks. i know that if i put the fisher paykel 432 or the ultra mirage back on, the leaks will go back into the stratosphere because they just don't work for me.

I didn't like the fit for me. But be optimistic, it may be perfect for you!!

Hello again, back as promised. Well my first three nights are looking promising for the optilife. but something strange is happening, that I don't really understand. my AHI have come down 05 from the 1 and 2 that i was getting with my previous mask even though I am getting lots of leaks with the Optilife. I am having some trouble managing the hose they provide a clip wich attaches to to head band but i find that it digs into my scalp. I must find a better way of managing the hose which I hope will fix the leaks. I would appreciate any sugestions from the forum. Jack.

Hi Jack, I have used the Optilife for about three years and love it. I have tried several others, including other nasal pillow types but came back to this one. I finally took the chinstrap off it. It wasn't doing anything and it stays on fine without the chin strap. I have the head-strap set very loosely. I pull it away from my face, down towards my lips until it free-flows then I guide the nasal pillows to my nose until it forms a good seal but doesn't hurt my nose. The gentlest tension on the straps that can achieve a good seal is the ideal setting for the straps otherwise after a few hours it sort of bruises the nostrils.

It sounds to me like you are using the hose clip wrongly. The hose is supposed to point down towards your chest and the clip is supposed to clip onto the bed-clothes. Make sure you leave a good amount of spare hose so it doesn't pull when you turn your head.
