That sounds like a recently made Aussie made pump. The Singapore made ones Purr more.

What is the "exhale" pressure setting.... (press both rectangles and look at the "full stats" menu)

I think the older models were quieter.
Right now the EPR is off but I have tried it turned on using it on all 3 levels, at 3 there was no detectable difference, set on 1 the whistle was still there however it was shorter in duration.

I think you are correct about the pumps being made in different factories, I have heard this on another forum too. It also does seem to be more prevalent in newer machines.

Thanks!

I think the "purr" from the Singapore units gets better or worse on ten EPR level. The Whoooo is different. There is a sponge that looks like it was designed to stop it but that would only work if its open foam type which I think would be a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe the S10 will have an external adapter were we can put our own after market filter boxes in which would end this problem.

Hi
I have read all the comments about the sound from the S9 machine. I bought mine last week after a trial with a rental machine which was very peaceful. I am very disappointed with my new machine to hear this annoying whistle, bird sound or whatever. I am using a different mask than the one I used with the rental machine and wonder if this has made the change.
I have tried holding my breath and the noise instantly stops but is there again when I breathe out. It starts at the beginning of the night and is there when I constantly wake during the night (due to discomfort of the mask).

I believed that the Cpap treatment would improve my quality of life but am more tired now with the noises, dreams and mask pressing into my face so wake many times during the night.

I am a new user. The first 3 nights I did not hear the whoooo noise on exhale - but last night I did hear it and it was so bad that my wife had to leave the room. Granted - I am still getting use to my nasal pillows and I am finding that a couple of times that I wake up with my mouth open - but for some reason my new S9 Elite didn't make the whooooo so loud the first 2 nights. I'm going to get a chin strap and see if I can train myself to keep my mouth closed and get the leaks downs. But I wonder of my 11 CPAP setting is the sweet spot for this noise?

You can shift the ERP setting one point one way or the other and it may fix it. I've heard machines I would send back but they aren't mine.

I have been using a machine for 6 years and just got a s9. I found this forum doing a net search about that noise. It all comes down to whether or not you are a light sleeper. I am and I hone in on weird sounds. I can't sleep because of the noise and will be returning it for something else.

the noise is either the seal on your humidifire or the air holes on your mask my mask makes the noise when I exhale Im using a respronics comfortgel blue full mask. I also think I've have found the issue with the cooing sound it seems to be from the humidifier because I hooked a regular hose straight to the pump without the humidifier sound was gone

With mine it's not the mask, I've tried several different plus the noise is obviously coming from the unit.
Also I've taken the humidifier off and that too makes no difference.

I am new to this, and have been trying to adjust my mask, thinking it was a leak, but could not figure out where it was leaking...... that was before I got sleepy head.... ( I did have leaks as well) ...... I did get the leaks down, I still have a slight noise.. It does not really bother me,. and will probably loosend up the maks a little and live with it... as long as the lear rate on sleepyhead does not go above 11-15 range.

My S9 Elite makes the loud coo noise also at straight 11 CPAP. It's annoying to me also. Pick another brand.
