CPAP Mask Poll

Post by Babeheart » Mon Apr 03, 2006 1:08 pm

Hello everyone,

In conjunction with the questionnaire I posted previously I am also asking people what their preference is for CPAP masks and if they are a side/stomach/back sleeper.

Your input is greatly valued.

Thank you,
Jennifer

CPAP Mask poll

Stomach sleeper, Ultramirage nasal mask, not necessarily the most comfortable set-up available, but with the right size for me (shallow-wide) I have no leaks, so it's effective.

Over 5 years, so far the best one for me is the Mirage Swift™ Nasal Pillows System. I get to check out several others this week though, so that may change.

ric:

i'm a side sleeper, although sometimes i wake up to find i've been sleeping on my back.

if nasal only, swift. although you may find you need to switch off with activa unless you don't mind bathing your nose every nite in lubricants, etc. but i haven't tried breeze, aura or nasal aire 2.

if full face, UMFF.

Since I fall asleep on my side and wake up on my back, I'm not sure how much time I spend in either position! Either way, Swift is my most frequent mask. Aura comes second. Activa is third.

I've been a hosehead since Aug 04 and the Aura is the only interface that has been comfortable and relatively leak free for me. Definitely a side sleeper.
Even Activa and Breeze did not work for me.

I cannot tolerate the Swift very well.

I'm one of those with Slotted-Nares and my septum isn't straight so it makes for a weird fit.

Linda nicknamed my Swift - "Chuckie," to give you a perspective on my experience with it.

From my conversations here it seems I am NOT a candidate for nasal pillow systems - Bummer.

Whenever I need some abuse, I just wear my Swift for a night. I wore it last night and did ok with it but I could feel sensitivity through the night. I did not lube up which might have been overly optimistic on my part. I have a Heated Hose and my HH is on 2. The hose makes a huge difference. It's like being in SOuth AMerica in the jungle.

I spoke to Becky from cpap.com about masks (she was great- answered all my questions) and based on my situation nasal pillows are a low probability play for me.

This doesn't leave too many options. I have the ULtra Mirage Nasal which is fine, I liked the idea of the Swift because less on the face is more.

I'm considering an ACtiva but don't know if it has any real advantages over the ULtra Mirage Nasal.

Masks -the ultimate frontier.

I fall asleep most of the time on my side but I believe that I send most of the night on my back.

My one and only mask is the Ultra Mirage Full Face. I am looking at getting a second mask (just to have a spare in case) and am looking at the ComfortFull 2.

I'm am predominantly a side sleeper and I use the Breeze with large pillows. I also occasionally use my Aura after picking up the rubberband trick here on the forum for solving the problem of the nasal piece drifting away during sleep. I will probably use the Aura more when I can obtain the Aussie heated hose to prevent the rainout that seems to always be more noticeable to me with the Aura than the Breeze.

Masks

Post by sleepyred » Tue Apr 04, 2006 6:35 am

I use the breeze with large pillows currently. I am a side sleeper - so much so that my right hip hurts! (I was a right side sleeper prior to cpap therapy - actually for almost 12 years). I have the mirage activa which is not as comfortable, but I think is outstanding.

I'm waiting for my back ordered comfort lite 2 this week to try. Guess I'm a mask junkie now.

I use the breeze about 90% of the time since I got it in Feb. But I will return to the Activa if I am having sinus troubles so I just don't have to worry about a stuffed up nose.

I use a basic chin strap and make sure it goes from under my chin right under my bottom lip - no leaks and I just don't have to worry about my mouth opening and believe me, when it does, my hubby lets me know!

I am predominantly a side sleeper, although I often awake on my back. My one and only mask is the F&P431, which is a full-face mask. Love it.
