CPAP doesn't seem to work anymore

Post by francis » Mon Apr 03, 2006 12:23 pm

Hi. What a great forum. I am hoping someone will have a recommendation for me. My husband uses his CPAP machine nightly and has for approximately 3 years. Recently, he has started snoring and jumping again, all night long. Does anyone have a clue what can be done about this? He recently lost 26 lbs. I don't know if that has something to do with it. HELP! Thanks!

Usually, weight loss requires an adjustment in pressure. But there could be other things going on as well. He should check with his doctor and see about getting another sleep study done to determine the correct pressure.

Not sure what type of machine he has or if he has the software to go with it to see what's happening. If not, he should contact the doctor who prescribed the cpap and set up an appointment with the sleep lab to have a new titration done to determine the correct pressure. Weight loss can, in some instances, lower an individual's pressure requirement. However, you also mention he's now snoring and it is my understanding this would be an indication his pressure isn't set high enough. Hard to say wha'ts going on until he has a new titration, so I'd suggest talking to the doctor.
