Free Trial for Newbies and Strugglers (Aromatics)

Post by SleepGuy » Fri May 25, 2012 8:45 am

Over the years I have had great feedback and suggestions from people on the boards for the handful of products I have developed in my personal attempts to make cpap tolerable.

I'd like to offer a free sample of aromatherapy - Pur-Sleep to anybody who sends me a PM with a mailing address. The only thing I ask in return is honest feedback, either private or public.

This product seems to help most people become desensitized to their cpap so I would like to focus on people who are new or otherwise struggling to use their equipment. For me I was subconsciously removing my mask almost every night even after months of trying to use the machine. It turns out that pleasant smells automatically calm down the emotional center of the brain (the limbic system) and allow you as the patient to focus your attention on something pleasant, resulting in a situation where other distractions blend away into the background. I couldn't believe it myself the first time I tried it--that was the first full night's sleep I had experienced in many years, way back in 2006.

I am in the process of re-evaluating the products and am looking for feedback from others in that process--and hopefully I can help out some people in the process.

I'm on a work computer and the confirmation code to send a PM is a bix red x in a box. I can't read the code to send a PM.

I would love to try, since I am getting a brand spanking new machine this afternoon! Can you PM me and I'll answer back? Sorry for the inconvenience, but I'd hate to miss out! By the time I get home and able to access my computer, you may already have all the triels spoken for...

Thank you,

Marianne

I don't recall if it's one of your scents, but three drops of Eucalyptus Globulus oil in the humidifier water works wonders on my sinuses. YMMV
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

You don't put the oil "in" the humidifier you put it on a small disc or cotton ball and place it at the intake of your machine.
Cheers

I considered the pros and cons of both methods and decided that putting the oil directly in the humidifier water would at worst damage my tank and tube while putting it on a diffuser near the inlet could at worst damage the entire unit. As I said, Your Mileage May Vary...

Eucalyptus globulus is the more common form of Eucalyptus used in medicines and fragrances. You can get the oil at most organic and health food stores. Make sure the label says "pharmaceutical" or "therapeutic" grade. The price runs between $12 and $25 a bottle, but at pharmaceutical grade, one drop goes a very long way.

SleepyGuy,

I have used Pur-Sleep aromatics for about 6 months now (almost the entire time I have been on PAP therapy). Though I probably could, I don't want to sleep without it now. I almost exclusively use 'Clear' as it does wonders by opening up my nasal passages and when I have my seasonal sinus/allergy issues, but I will mix in an occasional night with 'Calm' as well. Just like how the machine, mask, and hose can become, over time, a call to our mind and body to sleep (like our pillows and blankets do), the Pur-Sleep aromatics have been permanently added to the things that mean 'Sleepy Time' for me. Thanks for making such a great product for us 'hose heads'

John

As a user going back to Jan 2007 - I am a BIG believer & Advocate of all of pur-sleep's products MAINLY Desensitization . . . By focusing your attention on an aroma that you find pleasant, other sensory inputs cannot compete for your attention. This is called "cognitive distraction" and it's a powerful feature of the sense of smell. Accomodation is another part of olfaction, meaning that the brain quickly adjusts to pleasant smells. This part of olfaction will help your mind accept your therapy more quickly!

CPAP distractions can be so overwhelming that many people give up on therapy despite the consequences of untreated apnea. Your subconscious mind has the ability to tune out these distractions once it accepts that they are not threatening. Unfortunately, this process can take a long time to happen by itself.
Image Ultimate Starter Pack contains everything you need to experience the Pur-Sleep CPAP Adjustment System™:

One Passive Diffuser base.

Twenty premium, re-usable Diffuser Pads (along with zip-lock bags for storage).

One 5ml bottle each of Clear™, Spice™, and Peace™, three of our best and most popular essential oils!

A sample vial (1ml) of 10 other aromatics in the product line (Calm, Comfort, Fresh, Deep, Creme, French Vanilla, Strawberry, Peach, Bubblegum, and Black Cherry). The package also includes a reuseable cardstock diffusion tray that's very convenient to pack when you travel.

Hey SleepGuy,

Still waiting for you to come out with a cannabis essential oil.

Just wanted to say that the PAPCap is still holding out well and strong after what, two and half, three years now. I'd buy another if you had one in a jaguar print pattern to match my avatar.

Best wishes dude.

I would LOVE to awaken at 7:00 AM with my mask still on, and I'm also very scent oriented, so I hope a lovely aroma will help me keep the mask in place just a few more hours.

I would have to be one of those who report that I began using PurSleep (Clear) fairly early on, based on recommendations here, actually! It made it easier to fall asleep and not feel I was suffocating (I'm often "stuffed up"). I've tried one or two of the other scents from one of the packs of trial sizes, but it's Clear all the way, as far as I'm concerned.
