LIGHT battery for air travel

Post by user from Singapore » Thu May 24, 2012 12:23 am

Disclaimer: Before you tell me, I have done some research on the forum but could not find the info I need. I saw that there is great info on how to make your own battery while camping, but I need something else.

I am looking for a small and light battery that can be used on board while traveling in an aircraft. I checked with the airline, they said I can take the machine on board (Respironics PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP) and said I need a dry cell battery. That makes sense.

I also did some search online, and found that there are very light models (about 1 kg) but they are rather expensive, $ 250 to 300 plus delivery, that is a bit too much since I may need it maybe 2 to 5 nights per year... I contacted the local DME (just out of curiosity) and they charge 3 times what I found online... They also said they don't have stock because they don't sell. No wonder, if they changed their pricing policy that may help a bit

I have found a very nice guy who deals with all sorts of batteries, he is ready to help at a much lower cost, but he is unsure about the exact specifications.
So if anybody can give me the exact requirements that would be great.

Thanks in advance

You might want to email him the specs of competitive products or better yet, just buy from here directly: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-battery-power ... attery.php. I've looked at portable batteries in the past and couldn't find anything less than $300. If you're in Singapore, many of the Asian airlines have power, even in the back [unless you're on Air Asia or one of the other budget airlines].

The cheapest option might be to pay the extra fee for a seat with an outlet; if possible.

You might also want to consider what will happen with the TSA or other passenger finds a "custom" battery.
