Odd Dreams

Post by dreamweaver » Mon Mar 06, 2006 7:58 pm

Hi. This is my first time here. Treated for PLMD for 6-8 years, OSA for 6 mos. On Provigil for EDS. Still wake up lots at nite & fall asleep off & on all day - lose chunks of time a lot. My neuro is adamant I go to Cleveland Clinic - suspects CSA and/or narcolepsy. Have a journal of nearly 50 silly smothering dreams I believe to be related to OSA. Dreams have recently turned ominous. Felt myself "sinking away" and dying in one. Since then have had repeated dreams like an out-of-body experience. I am high in the room looking down at myself motionless on the bed. The utter stillness is quieter than anything I've ever not heard. A nearby voice states"It's been a long time since you took a breath". I become very aware of the passing of time and reply "Yes it has been." The voice says "You should breathe now" so I do. The End. Does anyone else have dreams lke this? What's your doctor say?

Dreamweaver . . .

It seems that what you describe may have not necessarily been a dream. Like you say, you may have actually been out of your body, and having a spiritual experience.

"I am high in the room looking down at myself motionless on the bed. The utter stillness is quieter than anything I've ever not heard."

Your words above describe an OBE.

Also when you said:

A nearby voice states "It's been a long time since you took a breath". I become very aware of the passing of time and reply "Yes it has been." The voice says "You should breathe now" so I do.

This reminds me of an sleep experience I had before being diagnosed with sleep apnea. I was awakened by a female voice speaking my name and telling me to breathe. I couldn't believe I wasn't breathing, but it must have been true. I would sometimes wake up gasping for air. In my case it was not a dream but a spirit guardian looking after me. I don't know who she was, but because of her, I was prompted to ask my doctor for a sleep study. I didn't tell the doctor about my spirit experience because it wasn't necessary.
The message was for me, not the doctor.

I don't know what to say about your medical condition (I'm not a doctor), but your spirit experiences are normal.

Hi dreamweaver,

My suggestion is to stick with your story but do not tell your doctors. They seem to get excited about these kind of details and you never know where you'll end up. What's more, they expect you to show up for appointments at their whim which can be a real inconvenience.

Smart thing to do - and this will no doubt put quite a few bucks in your pocket - is to simply contact the tabloids. Play one off against the other and before long you get a new car, wardrobe, huge plasma TV to hang on the wall; and you don't even have to leave the house. They come to you!! No appointments are necessary!

Go for it and good luck.

It's good that you keep a dream journal, because this is your subconscious mind communicating to your conscious mind. Only you can correctly interpret your dreams, because each person has his/her own unique symbols and codes. Often we will have dreams about things that are bothering us. Are you bothered by the possibility of dying from your ailments? If so, this might explain why your dreams have become ominous. Those problems which our conscious minds avoid or can't resolve during our waking hours, will be dealt with when we dream.

My comments to you are offered in utmost sincerity and concern. I take what you say seriously and although some people may find humor in your situation — which is OK — all joking aside, this is important to you and shouldn't be trivialized.

Odd dreams

Dreamweaver - what you are seeing is common in certain very serious events where people who 'die' will see themselves exactly in the way you describe, and then 'return' to their bodies when they are brought back either by CPR, or defibrillation, etc. It is NOT a 'spiritual' thing at all, but a recognized clinical (cardio-neurological) happening and I think you definitely need to talk to your MD about it, and what it might mean, and possibly have further testing. Your apnea might be more than routine, or require a different type of treatment. I would have PM'd you on this, but you're not registered.

Thanks to everybody for your replies. Since that post I have registered with user name kteague. I appreciate everyone's input. Dreams are such a subjective topic. I've read so much about the meds causing dreams that seem real, that I'm not able to say unequivocally that this was not one of those dreams. But in my heart I feel that I was in crisis with my breathing, and whatever significance I apply to it, that there was outside intervention. This happened a few times. It's interesting to me that my dreams before using the cpap machine were more just silly scenes that turned out okay. (I'll insert a couple below just for fun.)I didn't have dying dreams till after using the cpap - wonder if that's coincidence. I read somewhere that some patients with central sleep apnea have increased episodes when on cpap. My doc suspects CSA, but I can't see that any of my studies mention it. I did report to the doctor's office about the dreams. I am scheduled at Cleveland Clinic toward the end of the month. Will report back here afterward. As far as making money off this thing, I think selling downloads of my home video of my Periodic Limb Movement Disorder would be the money maker. What a performance!!! That's something I need to go public with to prevent it being used as blackmail. Will check back in later. Thanks, everyone.

DREAMS:
Dream #2 – Throngs of people looked upward. Above the skyscrapers hovered a gigantic tongue-shaped blimp, reminding me of a cow tongue at the meat market. The crowd gasped in unison as the tongue suddenly lurched out of control, tip end plummeting groundward like a suicide bomber. Panicked observers ran for their lives. The blimp exploded on contact, then slumped into a shriveled mound on the city street.

Dream #5 – My neck felt irritated, so I went to the mirror to examine it. When I pulled down my turtleneck, I found the lower front of my neck covered with thick bushy hair, like the clump that protrudes from the tee-shirt of a very hairy man. When I pulled on the hair, it just got longer and
longer, and I realized that it was growing endlessly on the inside.

Dream #24 - Answering the doorbell, before me stood a woman with a dog sitting dutifully behind her. The visitor explained that she was a neighbor, and was looking for people interested in giving a good home to the pups her dog would soon deliver. I thought, "Lady, you'll never give them away if they look like that long-necked, bug-eyed, ugliest dog I've ever
seen." She babbled on as I realized, "Oh no! That dog's not ugly - it's choking to death!"

Sweet Dreams Everyone!
