REMstar 60 auto review somebody ?

Post by rosacer » Sat May 12, 2012 7:13 am

Hello guys

I was wondering if somebody who has a new System One REMstar 60 auto could let us know:
- how this machine functions, is the heated hose working well (no rain out, are you able to control the temperature at your ease? or it's super hot at the point of been uncomfortable)
-Is it noisy
- Is it well make with good materials or there is some design's problem Ex. flimsy parts, hose problems, etc
- are you able to clean easily the humidifier tank? Is it's capacity adequate?
- Is Sleepyhead already working for it?
- Are we able the get Provider manual some way?

I would like to know too if we access the clinical menu the same way we do with the System One to change settings. I read we are supposed to have the daily data on the screen plus the 7 and 30 days as in the past.

In general what is your impression for this new machine. Is it a good idea to buy one or should we buy the previous System One instead?

Thanks

Rosie

SleepyHead is not yet compatible with the new 60 Series machine. Unknown as to when Mark will have it compatible.
EncoreBasic will work with it though..Available by request from you know who. Works on the new 64 bit computes too and even offers waveform...so no loss of any of the main data. It is a huge improvement over the bloated pig called Encore Pro.
I have a copy of the provider manual...it doesn't differ much from the regular provider manual except it adds the heated hose stuff. I can send it as pdf attachment to a private email address.
I also thought it gave daily AHI but I have not seen that confirmed...from the literature it is still the 7/30 day average limited data.

The other stuff you asked about I have no direct knowledge of so will have to defer those who have used this model.

Thanks RandyJ

Thanks Pugsy, you are lovely

I'm couching a new hosehead. He was so trilled after his first hour (yes after only one hour sleep with a PR System One auto) that he has finally decided to join the club.

I'm not too inclined to suggest him to buy a Resmed S9 (we are in Canada, $$$$$$$, heated hose problems, no shipping from USA; they are on my black list ).

I don't know what he should buy when time will arrive (he is waiting for his prescription although he was diagnosed 3 years ago in the hospital he needs to start again all the '' pilgrimage''). He needs a machine with a software easy to use because he is not very good at computers. What would you suggest Pugsy?

Hey REMstar auto series 60 owners, please let me know more of your comments and experience with this new machine.

If a heated hose is a priority...the 60 series machine offers that but the prior non heated hose machine could still be used along with a stand alone heated hose like the Hybernite 2300 or the Aussie hose. Heated hose is nice but except for winter time I never really had any pressing need for anything other than a hose cozy for rain out control.
Winter and my cold bedroom preference makes condensation pretty much guaranteed. If your friend prefers a warmer bedroom temp then he may not even need a heated hose.

SleepyHead is pretty simple to use but I think that once you figure out EncoreBasic you will see it isn't hard to manage at all. Really isn't hard to use and you have conquered Pro...so you should be able to instruct him pretty easily.

Given the lack of being able to get a reasonably priced ResMed shipped to Canada..the PR S1 would be my first thought. Have you checked with SecondWindcpap.com? They might have a gently used S9 (or open box new special) that is priced attractively and I don't think they have the problem shipping ResMed to Canada (need to check with them to make sure).

Just in Nebraska, my heated hose is an absolute must.

I believe that's the same price as Cpap.com on the PR System One 60 Series.
I do not use a heated hose so maybe this is not the machine for me.

I haven't heard anything regarding heated hose with the BiPaps...if they hold true to previous sequence, they will likely release the other cpap models with heated hose before moving on to the BiPap models.

Does anyone know where I can get a backup battery for my Series 60?

Just got my 60 series auto yesterday, first night with it was great, but it was apparent that the upper limit my doc prescribed (8cmH2o) was too low since the pressure was up against it all night. Even so, I managed an AHI of only 2.5 for the night, which was pretty exciting! Today I bumped the upper limit up to 18cm to let it do its thing. I'm only 3+ wks since diagnosis so I'm still getting used to all this.

Haven't used the heated tube yet, I'm in a pretty warm climate.

Pugsy, I'd sure appreciate a copy of the provider manual pdf! I'll PM my email address. Thanks!

My Series 60 is on its way back to cpap.com for an inspection. Mine is way too loud. It makes a horrible intermittent loud whooooo sound at the end of exhale and the movement of air is loud in general.
I posted audio clips of the air movement sound at the air filters on both the Series 60 and S9 in this thread
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=77994&p=711051#p711051

- The heated hose works well, i got rainout with the humidity setting too high once. The hose itself is more robust than the S9.
- Mine was noisy, it woke us up
- Its a very solid machine, very well built.
- The tank comes apart for cleaning. Lots of grooves in there to clean if you get slimed. Its half the capacity of an S9 tank.
- Sleepyhead can not find the file on the SD card. Encore basic works well and gives a nice 6 page daily report.
- I sent you a PM regarding the provder manual

The new 60 series does show daily AHI figures - BUT the DME has to turn it on. For some unknown (well not understandable) reason, they seem reluctant to do that. It seems to be a big secret. My DME wasn't exactly thrilled when I told her I was able to read the data from the SD card.

I'm using Encore Basic 2.0 (Thanks "you know who" ) Is there some way to find out maximum pressure during the night rather than averages? The reason I ask is that I am experiencing "blow outs" with the face mask and I would like to know if the pressure is really high or the mask is not functioning correctly.

My main problems have been with using the mask... The machine itself seems to be pretty reasonable (my first, so what do I know? ). Low sound, humidifier tank easily removable and washable, heated hose working like it should with easily adjustable tempure and humidity controls. I generally keep the humidity setting at 3 or below and tank level at 75% of max will last 8 hours.

I would like the therapy screen to have an option for backlighting when running during the night so I could check pressure reading during the night when i"m awakened by whatever (pressure is shown on screen but you need a flashlight and squinting to see it at night --- no fun at 3am ).

leaks are nearly always related to correct mask size and headgear adjustment.
