If Resme S9 Autoset makes noise, what machine do you recomm

Post by gailandartie » Sun May 06, 2012 8:11 pm

I was just about to upgrade to the Resmed S9 Autoset, from the S8 Autoset until I read the thread about the "whooshing " noise from the S9's. I could not live with that. Do you have any recommendations for a QUIET auto CPAP machine?

Thanks. Gail

I have an S9 and find it very quiet. Maybe someone who has used both can give you a comparison.

Yes. My recommendation is don't worry about "noise" from S9 cpap machines, and please note that I put "noise" in quotation marks. Trust me, the sound the motor makes is a non-issue amidst overblown comments. (Albeit, there could be a lemon or two out there among all manufacturers of xpap machines, as in refrigerators, cars, etc., etc.

There are very few people around who might possibly be a lighter sleeper than my wife. I've asked here more than once. She's told me a number of times that she can't hear my Resmed cpap machine "AT ALL". Coming from her, that's quite a testimonial to the quietness of the Resmed S9's.

Gail, best of luck to you with your cpap therapy. Respironics has fine machines too from the good things I've heard. However, both my earlier Resmed S9 Elite and my S9 Autoset have been very quiet and they have reduced my OA from about 20 to between 0 to 2 in four months time. I also like the way they look and I like their lighter weight. When I need another machine, I'm almost sure to go with Resmed now that I've had such good experience with their stuff.

I have used both the Respironics machines and recently a S9 VPAP...the ResMed is a tiny bit more quiet.
I don't hear a loud swooshing sound. At most if I strain really hard I hear a very faint motor sound of some sort. I have to really focus to hear it. Mainly I hear just a bit of exhale noise through the mask vent. My husband says sometimes he hears the air moving through the vent and sometimes he doesn't. I have asked him if he hears the machine...he says it is very faint noise in the background if he focuses on listening for it. A total non issue.

I've tried both respironics and ResMed in the machine equilivant to the Autoset and vpap auto. The noise is not an issue on the s9 series in my opinion and they are smarter machines as far as information you can display.

Respironics machines are built like a tank. If I traveled full time for a job that would make me consider them strongly.

Use "white noise" or a fan for a few nights if you have a problem with getting used to sound from any new machine. Anth option that eliminates sound for those that are sensitive is a mouse pad like cushion under the machine.

I use the s9 as well, and I find it to be very quiet. I always use the humidifier, I don't know if that makes any difference in the sound as it travels up to the mask.

A FM Radio or T.V. or A.C. unit or Fan. all will mask room noise. Jim

I am new to sleeping with a machine, and I have the Resmed S9 auto. I think it is very quiet. I only hear it when my mask is leaking a little. Otherwise, I don't hear it at all.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

The new Philips Respironics System One - 60 with integrated heated hose and the ResMed S9 are both very good. I have the PR-60 and prefer it because it works better for me. With A-Flex it is a little more comfortable and the pressures are lower as compared to the S9. I think the PR-60 is a little quieter. That does not mean that it is better for everybody. My DME allowed me to switch CPAPs during the initial 90 day compliance period. If you can, try them both and decide for yourself. If you can't do that, then see if you can breath through both of them at your DME. A few minute test is better than no test at all.
