Digging deeper into that report...
"In response, it has moved production of lower value-added products to Asia, which has helped revive margins, which hit 60.3 per cent in the March quarter. Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/business/resmed-j ... z1tGPIomcl"
Those types of margins are typically associated with brand names that are household names as well. Apple for consumer electronics, Cisco for SAN/LAN equipment (Enterprise level only), and a few other companies. That means that they make 60% profit on every unit they sale wholesale to the reseller after factoring in all their costs to develop and produce the unit. There is still a lot of business costs that are not factored into that number, but that is still huge.

Good for them! They have a great product line and their retail prices a competitive to others.
Hopefully the profit will encourage them develop newer, more comfortable products.

Re: ResMed share price for those interested
The machine I bought was made in Sydney, it was exported to the US, posted back to Australia and including postage I paid half of what I would have paid if I bought it from Sydney. How is that anything other than a ripoff.LSAT wrote:Good for them! They have a great product line and their retail prices a competitive to others.

Here is the 5 year chart for ResMed (symbol: RMD)

Had we purchased the stock in April 2009, we would have doubled our money.
