Oh my nose!

Post by bipapper » Wed May 02, 2012 4:10 pm

What is the best full face mask for a sore nose? I'm using the flexfit 431 full face. Used to use mirage quattro but it really made the bridge of my nose really sore and red and almost blistered. The flexfit isn't as bad. Is there one out there? Please respond ...I really need a break!! I look like a high-rise Rudolph....not the tip of my red nose but the bridge!

The Innomed/Respcare Hybrid...nothing at all over the nose because it uses a combination nasal pillows and over the mouth coverage.

ResMed has a similar mask called the Liberty.

My nose is treated very gently by my Respironics FullLife full face mask --(no forehead brace).
A lot depends on the shape or size of your nose, and on the age of the cushion.
My Comfortgel full face needed a couple days break-in time (Band aid helped)
With the Cg Blue cushion, it is about the same--if not a little better (or is it just me?)
I have a Pad a Cheek full face mask liner I can use with it, too.
I recommend them.

I can tell you a trick that works with air cushion masks very well, but I don't think it would work with foam cushions:

Tip the nose part of the mask away from your face as far as you can like this \{ NOT like this /{. Hold it out away from the bridge of your nose as you turn the air on and then with the cushion really full of air around your nose bridge, settle the mask and lightly adjust the straps. You want the top straps as loose as possible while not leaking. To adjust the mask, tighten the lower straps, not the upper straps if at all possible. That cushion of air will save your poor nose!

On the Quattro, for example, this means dialing the nose piece all the way out to 24. Dial back in only if absolutely necessary to stop the leaking.

BTW, when you are doing this, be sure you are laying down in bed--NOT sitting up. You can be on your back, even if you sleep on your side, but you should be lying down with your head on the pillow.

It could be way too tight.

Do you wear glasses? Some masks work better for people who do and don't work so well for people who don't. Ask you DME about it.

Since I wish I could use a nasal mask, maybe this would be the answer for me. Am currently using that Total Face Mask. I'm looking for something else for the summer and am returning my F/P full face mask as it was a disaster and will ask about this one. I also wonder if this type of mask would allow me to lower my air pressure numbers?
