s9 adapt "Whoooooooo" noises on exhale

So maybe that sound only happens at a "lower" pressure setting ?

My setting is 12. What pressure are all of you at who are hearing the noise ?

My Sleep Doc's office just sent me a new Rx for a new machine and I had them write it specifically for the S9, but I am now considering the PR SystemOne Remsar Auto insdtead if the S9 has a problem.

I may have given the impression that it only makes noise on auto. It makes the noise on straight cpap also. My straight setting is 12 and it honks. Other than this exhalation noise, the machine is extremely quiet.

Dang ! That's the pressure setting I use too.

So.... what to do ? Proeceed with the purchase of the S9 AutoSet, or consider the PR System One RemStar 60 Auto ?

The PR S1 only has 5 reviews on the CPAP.COM site, they are all good, but 5 reviews is not a lot of opinions to base a purchase on. I wish I had more reviews of it before I consider buying that machine insteaad of the S9.

There a hundreds of reviews of the S9, and most of them are glowing..... it's just that darn noise......

I am very sensitive to noises while trying to get to sleep and while asleep. I am really concerned about hearing such noises, especially these repetitive type of noises.

The PR S1 60 series machine is brand spanking new to the market. Hasn't been available very long.
That is likely why the limited number of reviews.
Check the original PR S1 APAP reviews..

FWIW....I use a S9 VPap... I don't hear anything except my own exhale and if I strain really, really hard maybe a very faint machine motor noise. Certainly no whoooooing. I use auto mode....9 EPAP and 16 max Ipap but staring out while awake...I get 9/13. Normally Bilevel machines are bit noisier than the other machines due to pressure changing often.

Woke up this morning (on auto) with the machine honking. Pressure was 13.8. If I needed a new machine today, I would not choose another ResMed. It's a good piece of equipment and works great. However, I would prefer it not be virtually on the floor with a pillow over it. It's new and works fine, so I'll keep it for a while. I think its replacement will be a Respronics or an Intellipap Auto.

Thanks for the info.... even though the PR S1 60 Auto has just come out and not many reviews.... I think it's what I may/should choose, bjut it's confusing and I don't want to wait another 5 years to be able to fix my bad choice.

I have an older Respironics APAP and it's very quite. The only realy noise I hear is the sound of the air being pumped.

It's been a solid performer with no problems.... so, at least to me, Respironics has proven they can build a good machine.

I'm a little embarrassed to go back to my sleep Doc and ask for a new Rx since I just picked up the one he wrote for the S9 machine. I had him write the Rx specifically for the S9 and asked him to mark it "Fill ONLY as written" to be sure the DME did not jerk me around and give me a machine I did not want.

I've had a few at the house (don't forget to empty them before moving them and I won't have to crack them open!) and my sound meter can't detect it. however I hate the nose these things make. So does my cat. I can't hear as well as I used to but I have speakers that may be worth more than my house and audio amp designed by one of the best in the world but maybe I'm sensitive....

Pratzert, your doctor is there to serve you. There's nothing wrong with calling and telling him you have uncovered further information and have changed your mind regarding the selected brand. If he objects or gives you a problem, tell him that you've made a decision that is in your best interest. If he balks, fire his ass, go see your GP. He can write a Rx for what you want.

Actually, he is good and easy going too, I'm the one who hesitates to ask..... I hate to be a bother, but if it's my health, I should not feel funny about it.

BTW... did Resmed ever solve your problem with the S9? Or even respond with a final word ?

With the original brand new S9 making noise, I called my DME the very next day. She told me to turn off the ramp and EPR. That didn't do anything. I started trying to eliminate items that might cause it. After putting up with it for a week, I called the DME back. They told me to bring it in and they would replace it. I did, same noise on the replacement. I called back and talked with the DME general manager. They handle ResMed exclusively and she had never heard of S9s making noise. She had the ResMed sales rep call me. He also stated they had not experienced any Autoset noises. Frankly, I do not believe it. Why did they automatically replace a new machine? He said it might be a rainout noise or a problem due to the size of the hose on my Swift II. He sent me a gratis hose cover as well as a different mask with a larger tubing. I tried them both for two nights and the noise was the same. I sent them back and told them there was no change. Since then, I've not heard from either ResMed or the DME. I am convinced it is an engineering design noise and they have elected to ignore it, since a recall/redesign would cost millions.

It does sound like they are ignoring a known problem. At the very least they should have done a follow up with you. (Both the DME and Resmed).

I cannot believe they were not aware of any problems with this sort of sound, as there are a number of reports on this forum and other forum boards where people have stated they have contacted their DME's AND Resmed to complain.

Makes that Respironics more and more attractive.....

I'm using the ramp feature and the squeak does not start until the machine is up to about the full 12. The sound is not soothing, it is very annoying. I've seen threads on this board discussing the problem more than a year old - really inexcusable of Resmed. I may have to go back to my old machine if there is no fix for this.

I was sort fo hoping that [people who were juist now getting the machines would have better luck. I guess I thought that "maybe" Resmed had snuck in some sort of secret fix on new machines being shipped.

But I guess I was wrong.

I'm in the middle of a big battle with the DME to get the Resmed Sp Autoset and thye keep trying to get me to take a Respironics machine.... I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and do that.

I'm not sure I could stand a bird in the bedroom for 5 years.....

Really wish I had known of everyones machine "wheeeeeeesssssoooooooppppooooooo" before forcing my DME to get me this machine, truly disappointed in resmed, this machine was looking good.

Does anyone know a place I can upload a recording of my machine so I can link it here and we can all say if we're hearing the same thing?
