Major difference Resmed S9 , S8 - on data storage

Post by shb » Wed Apr 25, 2012 4:41 pm

I hope I'm wrong... If anyone knows for certain - please correct me.

It looks like the S9 does *NOT* actually record any nightly data (other than just the summary data -start/end time, AHI, max/median pressure, etc) - when the SD card is not inserted *before* the sleep session overnight.

I hope I am wrong, but this is a massive, massive difference from the way the S8 data storage with its smartcard.

The way the S8 worked - was that the data is stored internally on storage inside the S8 irrespective of whether the smartcard was in or out. The data storage would roll over to contain "detailed data" for just the last 7 days and summary for a month. When the smartcard was inserted, all data on the machine was copied automatically onto the smartcard - and then it could be displayed using resscan or other software on computer..

In the S8 the smartcard was merely a mechanism to carry the data from the cpap to the computer.

Not knowing any different - I had (it seems wrongly) assumed that the S9 works the same way.. So whether the card was in or out - didn't matter too much. Not so ! Without the SD card in - it seems the data just doesn't get recorded.

Last night I forgot to put the SD back from computer to cpap - and so I miss that night's data. It just would not have been a big deal with the S8 - in which case I would not be missing that night's data.

Also (in case where SD was not inserted in cpap) - Sleepyhead (with no "detailed data") does correctly show most of the summary data - but one it does not show is : AHI / AI (it just shows a zero). Resscan shows the AHI/AI - but the detailed data just does not exist.

There should be massive warnings for anyone who is moving from S8 to S9 - I've not seen it mentioned anywhere..

You are correct. I had that surprise as well. I know download data and immediately replace the card.

I also discovered it the hard way. So now I just keep the SD card loaded into S9. Conversely it appears S9 stores more, i.e. my S8 would give me only the last 3-4 sessions with detailed data whereas S9 so far is good for at least 5 nights. I'm now testing to see if it will store more than 7 days...

The S9 SD card will store 30 days of detailed data, and 7 days of high rate data.

Cheers,

Bill

There are many "massive, massive" differences between an S8 and an S9. Reading the user manual is always a good idea when changing models

Bill

Actually, I have discovered, if you download data from the S9 SD card BEFORE noon there will be 8 days of high rate data available. After noon, only 7. At least I'm pretty sure I saw this one day not too long ago. As I recall, I had not downloaded for 9 days and when I did, I did it before noon. Ended up missing only 1 day's data. I keep forgetting to verify this.

Yeah ... Interesting.... But the point is:

If the SD card is not inserted, before use, THE S9 DOES NOT RECORD THE DETAILED DATA AT ALL !! There is no internal recording, as there was in the S8.

True. That point has been mentioned many times in discussions of S9 data, but you are correct. I don't think it has ever been mentioned in the specific realm of what to watch out for when moving up to the S9 from the S8.
