brain damage and exhaustion from csa/osa?

Post by apnea2142 » Sat Apr 21, 2012 12:28 am

I'm afraid I've been permanently brain damaged from csa/osa. I have never regained my health and thinking since getting sleep apnea. I've even tried the resmed ASV and it doesn't work for me
are the thinking problems from sleep apnea reversible?

With adequate treatment there will likely be anywhere from slight to total recovery. I don't know that there is any reliable predictor of where any one of us will end up along that spectrum with persistent consistent effective therapy. However, there is a 100% certainty there will be 0% recovery if nothing happens to change the course. There have been endless threads about individual recoveries, and some are nothing short of remarkable. Had I not believed I could reasonably expect an improvement I wouldn't have bothered, I'd have just layed on down and died.

Have you been on therapy since November? I just started using an ASV a month ago and expect three to six months before I achieve the best therapy. I take some heavy meds and it's going to take awhile to get the machine dialed in correctly. Are you using the machine 100% of sleep time? Have you seen your doctor lately? If you're trying different machines it would seem you are in touch with the doc. I have hear people who say it took a year before they had any real improvement. It took me nearly four years to get rid of the daytime sleepiness. Hang in there. Keep using that machine 100% of sleep time.

Reinventing yourself over and over again under different names isn't fooling anyone.

Everyone that has connected the dots has told you the same thing. You have been given you sound advice (which you never take) and to get medical attention. Until you seek professional assistance with your vast array of problems, you won't be any better.

The people here cannot help you. I'm very sorry.

I looked at your past posts to see if you ever posted results of your Sleep Study, but I could not find any. Also, you don't reveal your age.

You posted the following about Residual Daytime Sleepiness:
apnea2142 wrote:yeah it's ruining my life too, can think clearly or read, have headaches sometimes too and fogginess
you might need to get a bipap or asv machine if you have centrals

I don't know what it is, I have asthma too but it's the sleep apnea that just gives me daytime exhaustion and memory problems. maybe with asthma you don't get enough O2 in your sleep

Reply,

It seems that you're mostly complaining but also give advice. In a survey done in France, Excessive Residual Daytime Sleepiness was found to affect 12% of XPAP users.
Some of them did have irreversible brain damage from using the XPAP or from something else. May be you are one of those. A good Doc could have found out.

The point is that we ALL face some sort of insurmountable circumstance. Sure you've had a tough time due to exhaustion and brain fog due to OSA/CSA. Good GRIEF! So have the rest of us. So, what are you doing to do about it ??? !!!

You need to get up and start dancing. We are not judged on the problems we face, but on how we dance in spite of those problems.

You need to work with your doctor to obtain a therapy that works for you. Go work with your doctor.

I've tried everything that I've read on this forum and even trying to get surgery. but for some reason I can't get enough therapy on the asv machine still so I don't know why people keep attacking me and ruining my threads for no reason? this is a free forum and I can post whatever I want

aren't we all getting brain damage? you are lucky if you can sleep on your machine because I haven't been able to get good therapy for many years even with changing machines

No one is trying to ruin your threads. People are catching on faster, even if you do keep changing your name/avatar, and are running out of suggestions for you.

As kindly as I know how to say it... this isn't a medical advice forum. You need to see a competent physician in your area who is able to answer your questions.

If you have tried everything you've read on the forum, which I question, and still can't get relief, there's nothing anybody here can do to help you.

I'm sorry that you feel "attacked" and feel that people are ruining your threads. And yes, this IS a free forum and you can post anything you want. But many of us feel attacked because you keep coming back, under new names, reposting the same things that have already been addressed numerous times under your other names.

For those that have decided they do not wish to participate in your threads, the new identities make it difficult to stay away from you. It ticks people off to realize that this new person posting is actually you, asking the same questions that have been answered over and over again.

I am sorry that you are so sick and can't seem to find help anywhere. The people on this forum have gone above and beyond to try to come up with answers for you - there just aren't any here. If you continue posting the way you have and continue doing it under new names once the old names don't get responses, you can expect people to continue calling you out on it.
