I think a criteria for joining needs to be posted in a sticky in that case. All this has made me monitor my behaviour more closely so I won't be shunned or voted off the island.

I don't see why he needs either a "there. there" or "tough love". He expressed himself. He has obviously been managing quite well but at the moment of the post he was frustrated and vented about cpap on a cpap forum.

And that's because you said so... right? Funny, I didn't know you were the moderator here.
One doesn't need to be a moderator to express an opinion. Funny how expressing an opinion suddenly is taken as an attack or attempt to control the board, isn't it. Almost like only one idea is allowed here.

So that means that the OP has conformed to the definition of troll = someone who tries to stir up dissension and we bit.

Yes, if you believe that he came here to "stir up dissension" - I don't happen to believe that.

And, I'm done here.

I'm thin, too, but that doesn't change what I said about the #1 risk factor.

For what it's worth, I read all of DynoDad's previous posts and there was no hint that he felt this way. In fact, almost quite the contrary. So, his "outburst" of anger seems to have been some pent-up feelings and they came out, for whatever reason.

With regard to expressing one's feelings, since this is a pretty open forum, if one person can express their feelings, anyone else can express theirs from the other side. And, this is what happened over the pages of this thread. Said another way, if you wish to express your opinions, be prepared for some counter arguments and points of view. That's just the way many forums are.

It just seems that even when people lose the weight, they still need the cpap. Of course, that is just an opinion and nothing more.

Try using another treatment for OSA. We just got introduced to Provent where I work. Small adhesives that go on the nose and cause an expiratory pressure that mimics cpap. May work for you.
Or talk to a dentist about dental devices.

That is not true of all. Furthermore, you can't unring a bell that's rung. I am no longer pregnant, but I still have stretch marks from pregnancy. One example of this related to snoring is that snoring may cause sensory damage that doesn't recover.

As I said in a previous post in this thread, when you post on a forum, you must be prepared to get answers that were not really what you were waiting for. When you complain about something, there will always be people that tell you to stop whining.
What really annoyed me was his answers to those who told him that, he was downright impolite to my mind.
I sometimes complain at work to my colleagues about my incompetent boss, if they told me to stop complaining and get back to work, I wouldn't shout back at them or make fun of their names.

Maybe when we feel the need to vent on the forum, we could add [venting] to the title, so that just people that want to read those sort of posts go and look at them

By the way, I really HATE it when it rains all day long and the lift where I live (I live on the fifth floor) has been out of order for 3 days!! (no correlation between the rain and the lift!! )

Well, after equaling my longest stretch on my APAP last night, I love my machine. LOL! And when I can get to the point where I am using it full time, I will love it even more.

Regarding the issue of tough love, I have personally never understood why people feel they need to provide it on an internet board. You don't know what they are going through other than what they post on the board.

I've been on cpap since 2005. Let's say it has been an acquired taste, tolerated only because I dislike being suffocated by my tongue hundreds of times a night without my machine.

As of many month ago, however, my therapy was becoming impossible due to chronic sinus problems, a deviated septum, and what turned out to be a situation where the good half of my sinus was starting to break down because it had been carrying all of the load for so long.

So after many years of procrastination I had septoplasty and turbinate reduction. The experience was far better than I thought it would be. And recover has been fantastic. I could not be happier now that I am getting real sleep again!

My main advice to people struggling with therapy is that nearly everybody I know strongly dislikes cpap for a variety of reasons. But if you recognize the dire effects of untreated sleep apnea then you learn, somehow, to tolerate therapy. Untreated sleep apnea is bad, really horrific--death by a thousand cuts. Hang in there and you will eventually find a setup and system that works for you!

It goes without saying that everyone would prefer to sleep without CPAP if that were a good choice, but there's no good reason why that can't be stated.

It amazes me how quickly people are labeled as "whiners" when they complain about CPAP. There must be some psychological phenomena that explains why people so quickly jump on someone who writes the way the OP did, as I've seen it time and time again here. I've got to out what the name of this phenomena is, as it's quite interesting.

I'm not a newbie but I did find it helpful to hear that other people did not adapt to c-pap immediately as I have been trying since 2006! I have accepted it as best I can but it is still very hard. My dr. wanted me to have the surgery (UPPP) in 2007,saying that I had failed c-pap,
which made me much worse. I now have to live with the fact that I can't stop the force of air from coming back out of my mouth! I have to do the best I can but don't sleep much.
Not everyone is lucky enough to adapt to c-pap.

DynoDad, I hate it too, for most of the same reasons. I view it as a way to help stay alive until something better comes along. And I pray to God something does.
I really pray something else comes along, too. Yesterday I talked to an orthodontist (not my appt) and we got on the subject of SA. He pointed out that SA research is basically in its infancy. Hopefully someday.....

In the meantime, I totally get the venting. I've wanted to vent many-a-time. This whole thing is no fun, but quitting therapy would be a catastrophy. I'm not willing to risk it.
