Re: OT - Eyeglasses
I had a scratched pair of readers so I took them down to the drill press and them used a sharpie to blacken them. I'll hit them with some black spray paint tomorrow.
The tv is much clearer. The computer screen is still a little fuzzy. I can read it but not comfortably, so I'm using 1.25's stacked to type this. I have been using 2.00's on the computer so that's a pretty dramatic improvement.
There is also a big change in colors, much richer.
The info I found on the web said 1.2mm holes spaced 2.5mm apart. I used a 1/16th in bit and guessed at the spacing. I have lots of readers laying around to play with.
They will take some getting used to because I'm used to looking over them all the time.
Thanks for bringing this up Goof, I didn't know they made them.

Re: OT - Eyeglasses
I check about them a year ago, then my eye doctor tried a pair on me and I could see that it helped, but he wouldn't let me know how to get some of my own. It reminds me of the light test he did where the light flashes all over your viewing area and you are supposed to pust a switch when you see the flash, (hated that test was very bad at it), it's supposed to measure parts of the eye that see the light and where it doesn't. With Diabetes I have a lot of bad places and floaters. I've dropped off their grid and no longer get then checked after 3 years they didn't help me much, so I cut out the hassle. Now I take OTC meds, and unsucessfully try to keep the diabetes under control. I wanted to get the ones that were laser pinholed, but these aren't. I too have lots of readers that have died, I tend to flop them face down of the workspace, lucky they are cheap. As usual goofproof (Bud), you are always giving great advice. I went to pick up my new glasses and they did not work, the place that made them, told me to take them back to the eye doctor and have her check them as they were made according to the docs prescription. They were correctly made but doc rechecked my eyes and came up with a new script, she had me come back once a week for 4 weeks and then decided with it changing all the time she would write the script for in between the few weekly changes, and gave me lots of eye drops and ointments. No sugar issues according to those blood prick machines. The new glasses worked for awhile but not optimally. I am going to a new eye doctor this week I hope and perhaps he can help me.
Oh Yeah, goofproof we could also get a great TAN with the foil contraption thing you and chunkyfrog inventing!

WELL,my pinhold glasses came in, they are well built, but don't seem to work well for my close up computer screens. It's hard to find what I want to see, maybe it's because the screen is so close and the room is lit. So for me it's back to the Readers +250. You got to try.... Jim

Re: OT - Eyeglasses
Goofproof, I'm curious how well the holes line up. Of course it would be different for everyone. If you look at something, can you close one eye at a time and see the same object without moving your head? I mean see the object with both eyes at the same time? Since that would change at different distances, it seems that you would be seeing with one eye most of the time.Goofproof wrote:WELL,my pinhold glasses came in, they are well built, but don't seem to work well for my close up computer screens. I do think they cause your eyes to relax. I got my Venni script bi-focals and could feel my eyes tighten as soon as I put them on.
I can't use the pinholes on the computer. The field of vision is too small. I kept losing my pointer. But I will still play with them doing other things. I was really suprised at the difference in color when wearing them. Have you tried them while watching tv?

Re: OT - Eyeglasses
Haven't used them much, I thought the holes would be smaller and closer together, at my computer screen I too find it hard to see the BIG picture. As far as TV, it does improve the view but again the holes interfeer I find myself looking thru just a couple, also the lamp by my chair causes trouble, maybe a darkened room would work better, I'll have to play with that. Maybe as you use them your mind tunes out the holes better, like getting used to XPAP pressure, I haven't really given them a fair chance, in the doctors office it was total dark.Lizistired wrote:Goofproof, I'm curious how well the holes line up. Years ago at work they gave us a nice pair of safety glasses that made every color look sharper and vivid, didn't help me much I lost them after a week. After that all they had were the cheap ones, first time you set them down on the lens they were ruined. I was a bad employ when it came to hard hats and safety glasses. Jim We still had to keep them with us, the FED's were around at times. In a 8 hour shift if I wore my hard hat I spent 6 hours chasing it to put it back on, so they would rather I work. We would be warned when the Fed's were on the property.

There is a lot to be said for that.Goofproof wrote: Maybe as you use them your mind tunes out the holes better,
You may remember a very old study where they used glasses that turned the image upside down. Of course people could not walk around the room, pick up an object, or even sit down without great problems.
But after a couple of hours the people became totally adjusted to the glasses and functioned normally.
But now came another problem. When they ended the experiment and took the glasses off the subjects saw everything upside down and again could not walk around the room. It took an hour or so to adjust.
You may find if you wear the glasses for several hours they will get a hole lot better.

Re: OT - Eyeglasses
I second zenni. We have been ordering for about 5 years now. My son was only 3.5 when he got his first glasses. I couldn't purchase the extra replacement insurance for as little as I could order new ones from zenni. I love that we can get 3 pairs and usually at least one of those are sunglasses for under $50. It's great for those who like to accessorize since there are so many cheap, stylish options available. We've had my son's eye specialist look at them and he was really surprised they were so nice and that the script was correct.

Thanks, archangle - I'm about due for new eyes all around - general, computer, sun - and right now I owe my DME 2 grand. And I need some dental work. When it rains, it pours, right?
