Nice rant.
I would be ranting at the NHS for giving you an S9 ESCAPE.

Actually, in France, we aren't particularly good at making those... It's Belgium that's famous for that! (never understood why they were called french fries...)

Re: I hate CPAP.
I think newbies would find it helpful to hear that people "hated" and/or did not adapt immediately to CPAP, but then eventually did accept and adjust to it. That's more inspiring to someone who is struggling than hearing from those who took to it like ducks to water, I think.
It goes without saying that everyone would prefer to sleep without CPAP if that were a good choice, but there's no good reason why that can't be stated.
It amazes me how quickly people are labeled as "whiners" when they complain about CPAP. There must be some psychological phenomena that explains why people so quickly jump on someone who writes the way the OP did, as I've seen it time and time again here. I've got to find out what the name of this phenomena is, as it's quite interesting.

Re: I hate CPAP.
I really hate the fact I wasn't diagnosed until 30 years after CPAP was invented.
To think of the decades I could have spent getting decent sleep, working, living and playing to my full potential.
For all the lost years I spent running on half power--I hate that a lot!
I am grateful I was not diagnosed before 1980; then I would have been given a hole in my throat.
If I were 30 again and knew what I know now---wow!

Maybe because compared to so many other therapies and drugs and life issues the we have experienced, this one is the simplest with the least lethal side effects?
I mean, really, I have more problems with wearing shoes then I have with cpap.

But having been here as long as you have, you must recognize that most people have more issues with CPAP than with shoes (although I personally have both!).BlackSpinner wrote:I mean, really, I have more problems with wearing shoes then I have with cpap.

Re: I hate CPAP.
Most people say they "hate cpap" when in reality what they are saying is "I hate that my body has betrayed me. The perfect machine (that I never really bothered to take care off) isn't working well anymore and now I have to give attention to it" .SleepingUgly wrote:But having been here as long as you have, you must recognize that most people have more issues with CPAP than with shoes (although I personally have both!).BlackSpinner wrote:I mean, really, I have more problems with wearing shoes then I have with cpap.
Most people resent having any kind of medical issues and will blame anything and anyone rather then take responsibility for their care. They will spend more time and money on their cars then on them selves to maintain their health. They never forget or skimp on that oil change. Nobody "hates" their winter tires that they need to keep on the road, no they change tires without giving it a thought. They buy new ones after shopping around and evaluating what is needed, but don't ask them to do that for their masks and machines for them selves.

Re: I hate CPAP.
With all due respect, that is complete pseudo-psychoanalytical nonsense. Dangerous, uninformed rubbish.
My body works fine. I have no self-esteem issues. I am not now nor ever have been in therapy. I have a happy marriage. I have a good life. I wasn't neglected as a child, nor was I bullied at or excluded at school. My CPAP equipment is all new and works as well as it can. I love the fact that CPAP exists.
But I still hate CPAP, because it's an unpleasant experience and a poor technological solution to a problem. Can you really not understand this?

Re: I hate CPAP.
Your body won't work fine after a while without CPAP and with OSA. Perhaps you can engineer a better technical solution? Can you do better?
Calling someones opinion dangerous, uninformed rubbish does not show due respect at all. Also from the problems you have mentioned that you are having with the CPAP, your equipment does not work fine.
You are entitled to your opinion on CPAP, but you are not preaching to the converted here - I think a lot of people on this forum me included actually enjoy CPAP when it works right and find it pleasant.

Really? I had no idea.Matty332 wrote:Your body won't work fine after a while without CPAP and with OSA.
No, but I can't make a decent lasagne either, but that doesn't stop me knowing that the stuff from Tesco isn't any good.Perhaps you can engineer a better technical solution? Can you do better?
When someone presents their opinion as a fact, and backs it up with a bunch of baseless assumptions, then their point is due very little respect. That was my point, I showed it the respect it was due - almost none.Calling someones opinion dangerous, uninformed rubbish does not show due respect at all.
In what way? It squirts air at me at the required pressure, the mask doesn't leak, the humidifier doesn't drown me - that's pretty much all there is to it. It's simple, basic, solid, in technological terms it's a Harley Davidson. Also from the problems you have mentioned that you are having with the CPAP, your equipment does not work fine.
'Pleasant'. As in "if I had the choice not to use it I still would because I love the feeling of the mask on my face?". "Not unpleasant" I could understand, but "Pleasant"? Re: I hate CPAP.
I was not going to get into this, but ... of course no one welcomes the experience the way they would a chance to win millions and eat cake... but after years of feeling rotten and discovering a way to feel better, an awful lot of us are quite happy to stay neutral about giving a 'fix' a chance, primitive as it might be for now, and believe it or not, once accustomed to using it, cannot imagine sleeping without it... actually having gotten so used to it that we prefer sleeping with it than without, and that's not an intellectual preference, it's a real one, whether or not we describe it very well here...
I suggest you wait a while and come back.. let us know in ?? six months or so whether you still hate it... your prerogative to do so of course, but it would be a shame. Really.

Re: I hate CPAP.
Are you cockney? That would explain everything! Going by your posts I certainly wouldn't have taken you to be sophisticated Oxford.'Pleasant'. As in "if I had the choice not to use it I still would because I love the feeling of the mask on my face?". "Not unpleasant" I could understand, but "Pleasant"? You are, as my cockney chums might say, having a laugh.
But if I were to solely judge you upon the content of your first post - You are, as my Aussie mates might say, a winging pom!
I am now having a laugh mate! 89 percent of my bloodline is from England so I cannot talk myself, look I wasn't strongly disagreeing with how you felt. You hate CPAP and find it unpleasant - fair enough that is how you feel brother. Fair enough. Some people find it pleasant some people don't, each to their own.
Re: I hate CPAP.
DynoDad,
I'm sorry that some of the responses to your vent have angered/upset you. Perhaps some were a bit harsh, but this site tends to function on "tough love" and while sometimes harsh, is effective.
When someone posts about all the negatives of cpap and how much they hate what having to do it has done to them, we tend to get our hackles up because *IF* we commisserate over those complaints, it gives new people ammunition to complain and whine rather than work on being successful.
The "attitude" has helped many people not wallow in self pity and work hard to be successful. When you consider the statistics that 50% (or more) people that are prescribed xpap therapy stop, our methods seem appropriate to helping people NOT dwell on those things.
If given a choice, of course ALL of us would prefer NOT to have a mask over our faces, a hose attached to us like a leash and air forced down our noses/mouths all night. But we've accepted that this IS the therapy of choice and done whatever we can to be successful with it. And one of the factors in being successful is NOT dwelling on the things that were mentioned in your initial post.
And as I pointed out in my first post in this thread, a lot of us have a hell of a lot worse things to cope with and complain about so we feel a little angry/upset that people are venting/commenting/complaining/whining (however you want to phrase it) over things that to us, are absolutely nothing worth venting over.

Re: I hate CPAP.
Well in fact, I do like the feeling of air on my face... And I barely feel the mask. I used to like the movement of air created by the fan in summer, now I get that nice feeling every night. Some people get on easily with CPAP, no need for you to try and say that they are lying or making fun of you just because you can't stand it.DynoDad wrote:'Pleasant'. As in "if I had the choice not to use it I still would because I love the feeling of the mask on my face?". "Not unpleasant" I could understand, but "Pleasant"? What was your purpose in coming to this forum? You don't seem to be looking for help and certainly don't seem to be trying to help others. This place isn't your electronic version of Hyde Park's Speakers' corner.
If you want help to fix your therapy, tweak it (although it's true that having been saddled with an S9 Escape, it will not be easy), this is the place.
If you just want to rant about CPAP and insult respected forum members that have helped many CPAPers, then maybe you should try somewhere else (a visit to Hyde Park? You will probably find loads of people to listen to you!)
Or if you want to vent you can also write your message on a piece of paper, squash into a ball and through it at the wall. Repeatedly if necessary!
