Sore nose bridge

Post by Escape143 » Sat Apr 07, 2012 7:14 pm

I have been using a full face mask for about a month now....very new to CPAP, I know...but I have to alternate with two nights of using a nasal pillow and two nights of a full face mask. I like the full face mask, but the bridge of my nose is killing me! Will it just "toughen up" over time? Any thing I should do while waiting? In advance, thanks! This forum is great.

I put a small band aid on my nose to cover the little lesion-threatening-to-become-a-blister.
It was a little tricky to remove, but it really works. (once, I forgot it until I was at work )
I still have to do it on some new cushions until they are 'broken in'.

Order a nose bridge pad from padacheek.com.

I am just now trying the Resmed Soft Gel Nasal mask, and with two nights in, tweaking it looser and tighter I have a sore red mark on the about one quarter inch below the bridge, could I possible need a larger size cushion? This a quite heavy mask for me. They never measure or fit the masks I get just say here this will fit. Is that the normal procedure you all go through? All comments welcome!

I'm using a total face mask right now, but was using the full face and having the nose problem too - to the point that I had pain after taking it off and that pain later in the day became a horrid headache. I had to stop using it. I think it was a size small. On one of the CPAP sites to buy supplies had a templet you can print out, cut out and figure your size. It appears that I am closer to a medium than a small. If my DME doesn't get a new version of my total face mask in, I might try a medium full face and see if that works better. I can deal with my whole face covered but when you get an itch, hmmm, not easy to scratch. LOL But not having my whole face covered would be my preference. So, I think if you search a couple of sites you might find that template and can figure out what size you should be wearing.

I too use a Resmed Softgel nasal mask and I have tried adjusting it six ways from Sunday and besides the red marks on the bridge of my nose the mask leaked quite a bit. Earlier this week I ordered a mask liner from http://www.padacheek.com and I installed it on my mask after cleaning everything yesterday. I have not checked my results with Sleepyhead or Resscan but I didn't note any leaks last night and my ResMed S9 said that my AHI was 3.6 last night whereas it typically indicates an AHI of about 6.9 or higher. I also woke up this morning without a red mark on my nose which I can only attribute to the PadaCheek liner. If this continues then I'm going to order a spare or two liner to have so I can wash the one I have if/when it becomes soiled. Note that the liner is custom fitted for your mask so it fits like a glove. If I were you I would call Karen at the number on her web site and order one right away to see if you get the same results. I was thinking about trying to find a new mask but I think the liner is going to save me some money.

I have been getting the sore nose and I have just about converted to the swift FX. Not perfect but what is.

Thanks Moondoggy, I took my small size Resmed Softgel nasal mask in today and they switched it out for a Medium so I will try it tonight. I will get a pad from Karen if I wake with a sore red mark on my nose. Thanks for sharing your experience with me, and I hope for your good results with this mask. I wish you continued good treatment with it. I tried the Mirage FX for her, but it leaks around the nostrils for me, wish it had worked as it is so light weight!

Your should take a look at the ResMed Quattro FX, it seems to not put a lot of pressure on the bridge of the nose.

Thanks sleepnationtv, I may have to go that route, those FF masks look sooooooo bit and heavy so I have never tried one. I am a very restless sleeper and somewhat claustrophobic.

Mace: your DME should be able to order the Fitlife from Respronics. Mine doesn't have them "in stock" but they order it.
