Unzombified, Baby!

Post by kosmonot » Fri Apr 06, 2012 8:08 pm

Another Walker has miraculously joined the ranks of the living, today.

Too good to be true? I fucking hope not.

Just had my first night of actual sleep in several years, albeit with with a friendly yet Goldmanesque "Giant Vampire Squid" attached to my face

Except rather than sucking as hard as it takes to accumulate profits, espousing an early MalcomXesque credo of "by any means necessary", the GVS, with a powerful death-grip and bizarre airjet apparatus, was gently blowing a brisk and beneficial wind into the nasal passages of your comrade, a Russian bow watchman on a British North Sea convoy vessel on the lookout for German submarines, plowing through 30-foot Winter swells in 1943, and dreading the telltale phosphorescent track of a torpedo.

I haven't dreamt in years. This episode is weird. But good, I guess: REM sleep.

My sleep study was off the charts with AHI in the high 80s, and other metrics indicating severe mixed sleep apnea. Heart is fine however.

TL;DR: Got device. They screwed up with not supplying me a heated tube, so with last night's cold spell, a requirement for humid air learned from the sleep study, and my open window (radiators in tenement are on full and I have to open the window), my nose got freezing cold after 2 hours without the heated tube. Did not dare hack into clinician mode and put heat on and wake up with a nightmarish rainout on night one. (Been searching this forum voraciously, of late.)

I had fiddled with the mask and tweaked it for an hour under pressure while reading and watching MadMen in order to make the inumerable subtle adjustments to make it comfortable before I used it.

Woke up with North Sea Nose after two hours, on two occasions. But got 2 hours of real sleep during each, with good REM, apparently. The heated tube is to be delivered on Thursday. Will elevate tubing and narrow the window opening meantime.

I awakened with so much energy this morning I was actually pacing the floor. My mind was racing. I'm not used to having energy and brain working properly in the morning. I like it, but it reminds me of stories where folks that were deaf or blind from birth who were suddenly were given the missing sense by from some miracle device, and then experienced sensory overload and had the gizmo removed.

I can barely remember when I felt this way. And its 10:00p now and I'm still pumped, with no drowsiness through entire day.

I walked the streets with energy confidence and today instead of dragging ass to work and back, as I did for way too long to even discuss. I now feel energy bursting from my entire body. I woke up ravenous for life.

But the manicness of it scares me a bit. Will it last? I suspect so. This ain't no drug.

AHI in first 4 hours of use: 0. Wow.

God bless the doc from Oz that came up with this therapy. A Nobel is in order.

I suspect this is just the first step on a lifetime journey, but I am just tickled fucking pink.

Your invested Comrade and Fellow Traveler for Life,

Kosmonot

Congratulations!
Not everyone takes to this like a duck to water.
Try not to over do it the first week.
You may find that once the "high" wears off you will be sleeping longer for a few weeks while your body soaks up all the O2 and uses the sleep to heal.

Don't worry you'll still have the occasional crappy night.

Congrats! I had a great night at my sleep study, the treatment phase at least, but it's been difficult since then. I'm glad you're doing so well, hope it continues like this for you.

kosmonot... really enjoyed reading your post. Well written!

Soon your nose will no longer be cold, and blissful sleep will be yours forever more.

Seriously, well done!

Really appreciate the encouragement and caveats. This forum has been an invaluable source of inspiration and information.

Went out celebrating last night and woke up with the mask on the floor, hehe.

Not the best follow-up performance.

Still at it. Actually did a full 8 hours withan AHI of 2.3. Got my heated tube yesterday after a rainout the day before. Keep pulling the mask off my face so enabled leak alarm. Heated tube is great. Seem to have ingested some air last night and it rumbled through my alimentary canal throughout the day.

But still feel extremely alive and renewed. Upper back pain has disappeared along with annoying tickling cough I've had for years. 4 hours with 0 AHI last night.

This is not fun, but I'll attack the problems one at a time. So many variables to tweak. I so value this forum.

Any more, I only swallow enough air to gross out the grand kids.
