CPAP machine pressure noticeably lower when I wake up?
CPAP machine pressure noticeably lower when I wake up?
I haven't been able to confirm this yet (hopefully tomorrow morning I can)... but when I woke up this morning, unusual for me, I took my mask off before I turned off my machine. I noticed that, before I turned it off, it didn't seem like the normal amount of air was being blown out. So, after I turned it off, I turned it back on. This time, the pressure was very OBVIOUSLY higher than it just was, right before I turned it off before. I'm starting to suspect that my machine's pressure decreases at some point overnight, not sure if it does this over time, or instantly. I have no idea how soon this happens, either. I've noticed over the last few weeks that I feel tired and out of energy again, and I'm wondering if something is wrong with my machine. I have an HC234. I'm not sure what to try next. I'm thinking of leaving it running when I wake up tomorrow, and using my manometer to see what the pressure is before I turn it off, then turning it back on again and testing again. Is this type of issue a common problem? I really hope this is the case, because I've been very upset at how I've been feeling for a while now.
Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

Confirm it with your manometer if you wish but I will bet that the pressure is accurate.
It is common for us to not even realize or sense much pressure when we wake up in the morning. We get adjusted to it during the night and what starts out like a hurricane when we first turn the machine on will feel like a gentle breeze in the morning. What you describe is really very common feeling.
I imagine you will need to look elsewhere for you recent increase in symptoms.
Since you do have a manometer...go ahead and check the pressure.

Just to clarify, when I mentioned that I noticed a difference in pressure, I don't mean in my breathing. What I meant was I could hear the air being blown out of the nose pillows, and when I restarted my machine it was WAY more - very easy to tell... not even close.

Hi - I feel like a broken record here (have posted on the same thing so often), but you have only a nasal mask, and if you've begun as so many of us do after a while due to cpap pressure, to mouth breath overnight, you need to consider getting a full face mask and/or at least a chin strap or tape, though the last two are not as effective...
Re: CPAP machine pressure noticeably lower when I wake up?
I actually do tape up and wear a chin strap, as well.

If you feel there is something wrong with the pressure then go ahead and check the pressure or take it to your DME and have them check things out.

the thing i don't get here is you say you have a manometer but haven't used it. wouldn't it be much easier to hook it up and test it rather than ask strangers what they think of pressure you are trying to describe? test your machine if you indeed do have the knowledge and proper equipment and then ask real questions about real pressures. you'll probably get further with it.

Re: CPAP machine pressure noticeably lower when I wake up?
If you read my original post again, you'll see that I didn't think to measure the pressure after running the machine all night until AFTER I had already turned it off. Since the problem I suspect I have appears to only occur after the machine runs for several hours, I cannot test it until tomorrow, when I wake up, which I also already posted. I was basically asking to see if anyone else had ever experienced something like this, in the mean time, until I can verify this myself tomorrow. Hope this helps you better understand my post.greatunclebill wrote:the thing i don't get here is you say you have a manometer but haven't used it. wouldn't it be much easier to hook it up and test it rather than ask strangers what they think of pressure you are trying to describe? test your machine if you indeed do have the knowledge and proper equipment and then ask real questions about real pressures. you'll probably get further with it.

Re: CPAP machine pressure noticeably lower when I wake up?
Inquiring minds, at least this one, are interested in the result of the experiment. I often feel like the pressure is less in the morning but I have never thought to immediately restart the machine. I have always chalked it up to acclimatization.
I did spend some time one day perusing the internet for a device tuned to measure the proper pressure range. I have not purchased one.

OP has not responded with the result of the test?
I did power cycle and found no difference. Acclimatization is why it feels easier.
