Success with Swift FX - Woohoo!
Success with Swift FX - Woohoo!
OK it's only one night but it's a start. Since I've been having a few issues with my current set-up I found this community (thanks all) and began discovering some of the new items available and problems that others encounter (and remedy).
I had seen the Resmed Swift FX a few times over the past couple of years but considered it more of a gimmick. Then I found this site and realised many people were having great success with it. So I decided to splurge on the new S9 and Humidifier, Swift FX and Chin Strap.
Last night was great. I found the mask comfortable and I seemed to sleep very well... better than recently with my old clunker, the Mirage nasal mask that's almost 13 years old. I can't look at stats yet because the S9 hasn't arrived but my gut feel is that everything worked well.
Thanks everyone for your help and especially those that have really gone the extra mile (Pugsy).

That's terrific!
I have used my Swift FX for 9 nights now and am getting more comfortable with it. The first few nights I didn't have it sealed well and it felt like a windstorm around my face....I think I've got it down now. I really enjoy the happy face I get when the mask fit is good.
Pugsy is absolutely incredible. I don't know how she has time to help all of us! She was so supportive of me when I was dealing with the sleep doctor, insurance and the DME.
Wishing you continued success!
Heather

Re: Success with Swift FX - Woohoo!
I figured the fx would be problematic, but I've got almost a week on mine now and am really liking it! It seems like Im not wearing a mask now versus the activa I've been using for 4.5 years. The activa applied th pressure over a larger area, and I just got used to it. The fx is barely there!
My biggest obstacle with the fx is figuring out where to run the hose so I don't pull it.

Wow Did you really use the same mask for 13 years, or just the same model for 13 years???
The swift is a wonderful mask, but boy, that was an expensive one for you

I lay mine along the pillow but a lot of users like to use some sort of hose management system.jaybee72 wrote: My biggest obstacle with the fx is figuring out where to run the hose so I don't pull it.
You can make your own.
This one is very popular. There are many others as well as a lot of DIY homemade ones.

After laying on the hose the first couple of nights, I realized I'd have to hang it up before I destroyed it.

Nope, the same Ultra Mirage mask for 13 years. I changed the nasal pillow a couple of times but that's it.Janknitz wrote:Wow Did you really use the same mask for 13 years, or just the same model for 13 years???

I rinsed the thing every day and washed it every week. The plastic bit is still as good as new I think.
I started to find that the thing was giving me a mark across the bridge of my nose. I also recently began mouth breathing after all those years. Heavens knows why.
I was happy with my first night with the FX, and I'm sure I'll be even happier when I receive the S9 Ausoset.

Re: Success with Swift FX - Woohoo!
It's funny but I thought that might be a problem for me too because with my Mirage I ran the hose directly over my head and jammed it in between my pillow and the bedhead. Worked fine for many years.Pugsy wrote:I lay mine along the pillow but a lot of users like to use some sort of hose management system.jaybee72 wrote: My biggest obstacle with the fx is figuring out where to run the hose so I don't pull it.

I tried the same thing on the FX last night but it didn't like the trick so I just lay it in bed beside me and I hardly knew it was there.
I am a back sleeper though ever since I began using CPAP, I always had trouble in the past rolling on to my side with leaks.

Re: Success with Swift FX - Woohoo!
This is what I have done ever since I started cpap and was initially using the Swift LT. I am close enough to the machine that I have plenty of excess hose and even turning over has never been an issue. I use a small buckwheat pillow so there is lots of room to just lay the hose around the pillow and I usually start the night on my left side with machine to my back. Hose rarely gets tangled with pillow when I turn to right side or on my back. I tried routing the hose upwards (bed is an old antique iron bed with scroll work) but I found it actually caused more upward tension on the nasal pillows than my regular way did plus it allowed any condensation in the nasal pillows from my own breath to run right back up my nose which was way more annoying than having to maybe move the hose in my sleep. Nothing like snorting a little water up your nose to wake a person up pretty rudely.crookneez wrote:so I just lay it in bed beside me and I hardly knew it was there.
