The Escape (and all the others that have leak compensation ability) are able to compensate for some leaks...up to a point...but none of them will compensate well enough if the leaks are major (like coming out your mouth instead of going down the airway). Even ResMed says that leaks above 24 L/min can impact therapy and affect the machine's ability to sense events. There is a reason why we have the red line on our reports...we don't want to go there because that is no man's land.burc2006 wrote:By the way, as much as I know S9 series including Escape have automatic leak compensation, if so leaking may not be so important, am I wrong?
Have you seen a report?
Here is a partial leak and event graph that I had the other night. This is a ResScan report..that red line is theirs.. I was pushing things awful close to that red line a good bit of the night and exceeding it at some other times. I felt horrible the next day. This happens to be from an experiment that I am doing with some headgear accessories. So this is unusual for me.

We don't always wake up with large leaks. Either from mouth breathing or mask movement.burc2006 wrote:And 2nd question, when I open my mouth, there is disturbing air flow, so if there is leakage from mouth in your sleep, didnt you wake up??
I have had some nights where I slept right through and I go and look at the reports and I was leaking all over the place.
Wearing this "stuff" on our face and sleeping with a machine blowing air up our noses is certainly less than ideal. I have always figured that if I am going to have to do it.........I want to make darn sure that I am doing it the best I can so that I can have the best chance at having a favorable outcome.
I do understand your predicament though. If you cannot manage the Elite..well then you can't and you do the best you can with what you are given. That is the way life is. We are only pointing out the possible situations where having data available is an obvious advantage. You have found your way to a forum where most of us feel very strongly that having data available is critical. We like being in charge. If you do well..start feeling great...it probably won't be all that important. We just hate to see people come here...using a non data machine and complaining about not feeling well and we have nothing to realistically offer as ideas because we have no clue what might be going on causing lack of improvement. The standard..."give it time" works well if time is all that is needed but doesn't mean anything if your AHI is high, your leaks are through the roof or whatever. We are just wanting to give you the advice that gives you the best chance of success.
