Newbie: M-Series x S9

Post by avoletta » Sat Mar 10, 2012 6:34 pm

Hello people,

I began testing CPAP last week and I'm adapting very well.

The test machine is a Respironics Autoset M Series C-Flex without humidifier, and a Mirage SoftGel nasal mask .

I want to buy the equipment and I think in keep the same mask buy try a Resmed Autoset S9 with H5i humidifier.

Dou you think I'll find problems with the S9 autoset programa or any other very different characteristic compared with the test machine?

This improvement is worth the extra cost?

Thank you.

The S9 is a newer and more comprehensive model of the other one, so you'd certainly be better off getting it if you can... masks are a separate issue, but 99% of them can be used with 99% of machines.

Do you have the correct name of the test machine? I ask because I have never heard of a "Respironics Autoset M Series". "Autoset is not a term used with regard to Respironics machines. Also, the M Series was discontinued some years ago. It is an old machine no longer made.

I am wondering if the the test machine is a PR System One Auto with C-Flex or A-Flex.

Tks Julie, I feel more comfortable opting for S9.

The correct name is Respironics M Series Auto CPAP Machine with C-Flex (https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/remst ... -flex.html),
and it is really old machine that is still sold in my country (Brazil), I found it very easy to use.

Tks

It is an easy machine to use, I use one.......but as Julie said it is a discontinued model. If I had a choice I would buy a "new" machine, not a discontinued one....what would you do if you had to have repairs or warranty work done on the M series......you would be out of luck.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

The M Series machine is a really good machine but it is older technology. Nothing wrong with it but we tend to like "new" technology when we can get it. I have a M Series APAP myself but I opted for "new" technology last year and keep the M Series as a travel machine..
The M Series machine is a full data machine and there is software that will show more than you can see on the LCD screen but you need the special DT 3500 Infineer card reader to communicate with the Smart card holding the machine's data and the software. You are limited to Encore software. Should you want more information on Encore software send me a private message. Not sure what the DT3500 would cost you but here in the US around $40. Software is free.

The ResMed S9 Autoset is a "latest" technology machine and it uses a SD card to hold the data and no special card reader is needed to communicate with the software available. It is also a different brand machine.

The PR S1 Auto CPAP with AFlex is the "latest" technology machine in the Respironics brand compared to your M Series APAP. It is an APAP machine. This machine.https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -flex.html
It uses a SD card also. You can see the features at the above link.

SleepyHead software (information in my signature line) will work with both the ResMed S9 and the PR S1 SD cards.

Both the new technology brands gather a bit more information than is available on the older technology machines. Not a deal breaker but nice to have.
If you have the money to spend (and depending on cost) the new technology machine like the S9 Autoset and the PR S1 APAP are nice to have but not critical.

Don't know if where you are at if you need a humidifier or not. I suspect Brazil isn't all a rain forest with high humidity. The PR S1 can be bought with humidifier and the new heated hose humidifying system for around $650 US. $519 if you don't need a humidifier. How does that compare with your S9 Autoset price?

Tks Pugsy / Tks all

I found ResMed S9 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine ($ 1,072.00) versus
Respronics PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex ($ 619 - yes WITH humidifier). (CPAP.com prices).

Why the big difference for machines with the same functions. Any restrictions against PR S1?

S9 is so much better that way? It's worth the higher cost?

What do you recommend for a beginner? I do not mind the look of the machine!

Thank you all.

My understanding, ResMed doesn't let resellers go below a set MSRP, so you can't really get discounts on them. If I was to buy outright, I would definitely go for the System One, as it can be had for half the price.

Either way, you'll get a good machine.

I answered in more detail in your other thread. Pretty much what Namlehse says in that ResMed prices fixes.
Minor pros and cons with either machine but we have that with any brand.
If money is tight. Go with the Respironics PR S1 but if you are going to use humidifier...go with the latest model because it has the heated hose humidification system. Much less chance for rain out. That was the main advantage to the S9 over the other PR S1 but not worth $450 IMHO.
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/pr-sy ... -tube.html Brand new model, just released recently.
$649 total. Only $30 more than the previous model.
