I see that you use the S9 Autoset like I do. We can run it in APAP mode or CPAP mode. According to a Poll from a couple of month ago some posters run their machines in APAP mode only and letting the machine pick the correct pressure for them should they sleep on their backs or sides or have their own kind of events and underlying medical conditions. In this case the APAP works as auto-titrator. Other posters use their machines in APAP mode only to come up with a most effective pressure (per the data output from the machine) and next, they use this pressure to set it for the CPAP mode. So most of the time they use the machine in CPAP mode.

The follwing is from the above CPAP Wiki icon:

One "con" can be leaks. I find that my leak rate goes up when I use apap; I recently was using a range of 14-18 and found that as the pressure would increase to the higher end of the range I would experience more leaks, many of them going over the 24L line.

I used the results of a few weeks at that range to set for cpap at 15.6 and find that I have far fewer leaks.

The major "pro" of having an APAP machine is that it allows you to try both APAP and CPAP and find out which one gives you more comfort and better therapy.

Some folks do better on fixed pressures.

Others are more comfortable with a tight APAP range and do better with that.

This morning going over my data I realized this very thing! The change in pressure also wakes me up. I'm going to set to my 95% of 16 and see if I notice improvement.

I'm just starting ASV, but prefer CPAP unless the pressure changes are really sooth. Don't like Bilevel. AUTO is ok.
An AUTO that will work in CPAP mode is most versatile. I have a VPAP Auto 25 that works in all three modes. Great machine.

I used to have an Elite--in the closet.
I am so spoiled for the Autoset--I don't think I could go back.
My pressure is around 2-3 cm. lower for pillows vs full face.
