Smoke Alarms & Sleep

Okay I know this isn't a sleep apnea post but I thought it important enough to post. In Ontario, Canada you can be charged with not having a smoke detector on each floor of the residence. Minimum fine is $250. Problem with this is that a test was done which showed kids do not wake up when the smoke alarm is triggered. I am wondering if it has to do with the stage of sleep they are in Below is a video of the testing. Something to think about if you have kids.

Smoke Alarms (& Canada)

Hi - One night in Toronto we got woken by the fire (not 'smoke') alarm in our condo and it was such a hideous, raucous, scrapey, creepy noise that it took me a week to get over it... but it certainly did the job. But little kids will sleep thru almost anything, so need their parents to be up, and if you get an alarm system that wakes you, that may be the best you can do.

I've heard of an alarm for kids that the parents voice record a message. something like "Billy, wake up. There is a fire in the house." When the kids hear it in the parent's voice, it's supposed to wake them up.
