Another new invention

I wouldn't try it, but this is pretty innovative.

I don't think Provent is all that new. The first thing I thought about was the CO2 levels. I'm glad the article mentions it, but I'm sad it said "But Dr Doshi avers that the extra CO2 is probably enough to be therapeutic but not harmful."

How is extra CO2 therapeutic?
CPAP for the rest of your life.

I think I'll pass on this one also. Accidentally sneeze and you may blow your head off! ... My mask is looking to be less and less of a problem.

I think it means that the extra CO2 is therapeutic in keeping the airways open like a CPAP does, but the levels don't get high enough to be harmful.

At $120 for a 30 day supply, I don't understand how it is cheaper than CPAP when looking at long term. Sure, a CPAP machine is expensive. But when you spread that out over 5 years, that gets significantly less for a year's treatment. Throw in replacement masks, filters, etc and you're still cheaper for long term treatment.

I tried Provent for a night and a half. The first night I kept taking it off. The second night, I was waking up every 30 minutes to an hour. So I decided to make an appointment with a Pulmonologist and finally start CPAP/APAP. I'm a Respiratory Therapist and finally decided to practice what I preach. I know I should try Provent for more nights, but I just think CPAP is a more effective solution. The "gold standard", right?!? It was only going to cost around $70/month. That is what they quoted me. My ten night package was slightly less than $21.

CPAP is like a train ride. once you get on, you're on the cpap train for the rest of your life. along the way you get off and look at other ideas or no ideas at all. in the end you get back on the cpap train and continue on the journey toward the end of your life.

The product retails at $120 for a pack of 30 disposable one-night units in America. Dr Doshi reckons that it is a cheaper alternative to the CPAP machine which cost about $1,700 apiece and is difficult to lug around.
Frickin' vultures. $120 a MONTH is supposed to be a viable alternative to a machine?!
