Short Lived DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust

Post by The Dreamer » Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:26 pm

Last night something happened to my IntelliPAP, it went to the max setting of 20cm H2o and wouldn’t go back down. I called my provider and they told me to bring it back, when I got there I was told that they don’t usually carry the IntelliPAP, and that that they had Special ordered it sometime back for someone else, and that they are not able to order another one, the company only deals with ResMed and Philips Respironics now.

They set me up with a new PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex and the PR System One Heated Humidifier. Unlike my old PR System One this one has a backlit screen and is quieter, much quieter.

Sorry to hear about your intelliPAP dreamer. A pressure of 20 would be scary, I can't imagine a pressure above 10cm myself. I assume your tried a fresh restart etc before you took it back?
I hope you like your new System One. I'd be interested of what your results are and what you think of the System One.

How do you know it stayed at 20, and for how long did you endure that? It may have been something simple like needing a simple reboot. Regardless, that is very odd incident, and I've not seen anyone report anything like it on the forum. Now you have a much more expensive machine, but if you are ok with that in terms of what, if any, cost you must incur, so be it. The Intellipap and PR machines are rated at the same quietness level.

The DME is pulling you leg, The Intellipap has a 3yr warranty, even if they no longer carry it they still could send it back to Devilbiss. Devilbiss would repair or replace it. Did you ask for the Devilbiss to be special ordered? Or did they have it laying around and pushed it off on you.?

They had special ordered it for someone else, and that person passed away before they picked it up. I liked the way it looked so I took it.

So now you know that your DME gave you that line so they could profit more from a more expensive machine. Makes you wonder how many times that Intellipap has been used like that....... and even if you were the first, I'll bet it is still sitting on a shelf to be used again once they have it fixed under its warranty.

The important thing is you now have a machine that is working for you; you won't be out any more money either way; but your insurance company will be paying the DME more....

Get this, I called my insurance company and they told me that they pay the DME a flat rate of $1,400.00 on a Auto Cpap no matter what brand name it is. Your right the DME would have made more on the Intellipap, thats why I thank they are telling me the truth about the Intellipap, because they wouldn't make as much on the PRS1, I would think that the DME pays more for the PRS1. They did ask me if I wanted them to send it back for repair and I told them no, I would try something else.

3 year warranty, here's the catch with Devilbiss, if you send it "under warranty" and the default is not part of the warranty, the provider is charged for the repair of the unit. It's not an even swap like Resmed or Respironics.

The PRS1 Auto is a better machine in my opinion, since it records flow waveforms. Unless you're out a lot of money, I think you are better off with the PRS1.
