I have actually noticed that I am not nearly as stuffy since begining treatment as I was pre treatment. I wish you all could be this way.

Mine is seasonal and I'm using singulaire, zyrtec, anf flonase to keep it at bay. See ENT in 3 weeks. The heated humidity does seem to be helping though-filtered air too.

I checked moderate. With nightly sinus irrigations (Grossan irrigator), heated humidifier (set to max), heated hose (Aussie, of course), and room humidifier (RH=50%), stuffiness is now only a moderate problem.

Bill

I usually only have one nostril working. When I turn over, which I do a lot, I often have to take a breath from my mouth till I can clear a nostril. I irrigate every night, take claritin and spray flonaise daily. I've had nasal surgery, but it left me in a worse position and I nearly dies during the operation. I refuse to have follow up surgery.

I've found that if I wish to I can breath normally through my mouth with the pillows on and without the rush of air coming out. Luckily on my side I can keep my mouth shut, but on my back or sitting up I have no hope not even with a chin strap and i'm to chicken to try tape with my nose. I still love my swift though.

My nose is rarely stuffy since I added a fine particle filter, and wash regular filter weekly.

Flonase, Astelin, irrigation, regular filter, fine filter all manage to keep it manageable so far (50+ days). I use the Flonase everyday, Astelin as needed, irrigation about every third day. I'm generally wide open to start the night and shut down on one side (varies by position) by rising. It has been OK. I thought it would never work when I started. It has gotten better with time.

I've been on CPAP for 6 months. I used a nasal mask. My nasal congestion seemed to get progressively worse, to the point that I couldn't use the nasal mask after 2-3 hours of sleep. Tried various remedies for several months, finally gave up and went to a full face mask. Tried a couple, but settled on Fischer and Paykul. It's comfortable and leak free, but I don't seem to get a sound a rest as I did on the few occasions that my head was clear and able to use the nasal mask. It's odd, but the congestion is usually only present when I'm lying down.

I checked humungous problem..

Are there any tips on how to get the nasal sprays to work?
I have all of them, but one of my nostrils is so swollen, I cant get the sprays up there..
Its completely blocked..
I can get the other nostril working to eighty percent.. and I use nasal pillows and tape my mouth..
An MD looked at my nose and saw it was so blocked she thought I had a polyp, but xray showed that wasnt the case.
A thermograph showed there was no flow going up it at all, so they thought I had a deviated septum, but dont think that is the case either.
Im wondering if I should have someone take a one more look at it.
I think it would be easier to get thru the therapy with my nose working a little better.

Elena, What do you mean by "all of them"? If you are talking over the counter nasal sprays, there's your problem right there. Those nasal sprays are fast acting, but cause rebound congestion which gets worse and worse with prolonged use.

If you are talking prescription steroid nasal sprays regularly (they need to be used regularly to work) and still having this problem, you need to be seen by an ENT. You may need a systemic steroid to get the swelling down, and then start back on a regimen of a good nasal steroid, plus oral antihistamine, and nasal rinses. Or the ENT may see something your GP didn't pick up on.

thanks for the tips!
I take the prescrition ones, the sleep doctor told me to double the doses and use at least two twice daily, before bed, one is a steroid.
I appreciate your help very, very much!

Me too!

I checked pretty serious, because I'm working on this problem right now. I can't seem to get my AHI down below 5 on a regular basis. I think that my one stuffy nostril is causing mouth breathing in an attempt to get adequate air, but then my throat closes and I have apneas. The machine sees a pause in breathing with the flow continuing, so it marks it as a central. I didn't have any "centrals" on my first sleep study, just now that I'm really beginning to get into some deep REM sleep.

I've started to do nasal rinses twice daily, in addition to the Veramyst which my sleep doctor prescribed. He likes it because he says that it forms a "spiderweb like matrix" in the sinuses, holding it in place and allowing it to act as a anti-inflammatory, which hopefully then lessens the swelling and opens the airway. I live in an area known for it's allergens. I changed a fine particle filter this week, too.

I've ordered a padacheek for my new comfortgel FFM. I'm hoping that I can adjust to it to allow me to occasionally mouth breathe. It's helpful to hear that some people use more than one med. Thanks for the post.

After using a pap for three weeks I unhooked the humidifier, last night, from the s9 and put it away. My nose was not stuffy for the first time when got out of bed this morning.

Mine is stuffy only in the morning when I wake up. A few sneezes and nose blows and I am good to go.
