Yet another new guy
Hello all. I'm six weeks into my CPAP experience and I can't find a full face mask that won't tear up the bridge of my nose at all. I've tried band-aids and moleskin on my the bridge of my nose and can't seem to find anything comfortable.
Also, I'm in the process of switching suppliers because American Home Patient was god-awful. They lost a prescription for a new mask and then lied to me about when it would ship. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable supplier in the Philadelphia area?
Thanks.

Is there a reason you have to have a ffm? Perhaps nasal pillows with or without a chinstrap depending on whether you have troubles with mouth-breathing?

I'm a mouth breather and I gag with the smaller masks.
Re: Yet another new guy
Have you considered the Innomed Hybrid or the ResMed Liberty? Both are full face masks but they use the nasal pillows instead of stuff on your nose.

Might also try the mask that covers everything. Several forum members use it and really like it.

What machine are you using?
Which mask are you using and having problems with? If you give us specifics perhaps someone has some specific ideas to help.

i am happy with american home patient. i suggest a meeting with the branch manager. if the branch manager is useless, pm me and i will call my branch manager to get a number for someone higher in the company. i had some problems in the beginning. a meeting with the manager straightened them out. no i don't work for them, it's just that they're my third dme and i like them. american home patient does indeed have a warehouse/home delivery set up and delivers probably any mask you can find direct to you in a sense bypassing the local branch. you can get the number to them thru your local branch. my stuff comes out of a nashville warehouse/set up.CrashDavis wrote:Hello all. Re: Yet another new guy
You can also make your own mask liners out of an old, soft t-shirt.
Just trace around your mask, add 1/2", cut the fabric out, fold in half and make a hole just barely big enough for your nose and mouth (it will stretch a bit) The mask will hold it in place, and it feels better than bare silicone--and quieter, too.

American Home Patient flat-out lied to me and my doctor's office as well. It's a long story, but I'd never recommend them to anyone. The customer service I was inflicted with was simply brutal.greatunclebill wrote:i am happy with american home patient. i suggest a meeting with the branch manager. if the branch manager is useless, pm me and i will call my branch manager to get a number for someone higher in the company. i had some problems in the beginning. a meeting with the manager straightened them out. no i don't work for them, it's just that they're my third dme and i like them. american home patient does indeed have a warehouse/home delivery set up and delivers probably any mask you can find direct to you in a sense bypassing the local branch. you can get the number to them thru your local branch. my stuff comes out of a nashville warehouse/set up.CrashDavis wrote:Hello all. Re: Yet another new guy
Hi, I've also been a mouth breather but did not want to use the nasal mask. Tried it, but had too many problems. I've had 2 full face masks and both caused pain across the bridge of my nose. Really bad pain that would end up in a horrid headache and both lasted most of the day. When I went to my DME the other day, she saw my nose (the bump that was being permanent) and said, oh no! you need something else and now I have a FitLife Total Face mask and I think its going to be my life long friend.

Re: Yet another new guy
I apologize for your negative experience with us. It sounds like we may have dropped the ball - I would like to know more about what happened.
It is possible shipping was delayed due to insurance verification or waiting on your prescription from your doctor, but it is unclear to me whether you were working with the local branch or the support center.
We would love the opportunity to correct the situation, and help you get off to a better start. If you would like, PM me and I will be happy to research your experience further and expedite the proper mask to you.

Re: Yet another new guy
I used a full face mask for a couple of years and then began having problems with a sore nose. I tried several things, such as mask liners, gel pads etc., but nothing was satisfactory. Right now I am switching to the Hybrid ffm. I like it, but it is quite an adjustment to making it work. I saw my dermatologist today and he uses a cpap. He said a friend of his just switched to the total face mask and was sold on it. I tried the Liberty mask (similar to the Hybrid) but didn't like it. I like the Hybrid if I can just get a few more adjustments figured out.
Hope you can find a good solution. Don't give up -- keep working to find the right mask for you.

I have been thinking of giving this mask a try. What issues have you been having with it?

Hey, Crash. Here's a second plug for the Respironics FitLife complete face mask. After battling with a nasal mask (with and without chin strap) then FFM, I couldn't take the discomfort of that added chin strap and the nightly damage to the bride of my nose from both nasal and Quattro FFM, so as a last resort I got a FitLife. Turned out to be the definite solution for me. It doesn't touch the nose or mouth and there's a complete visual field of view when it's on. It's less confining feeling than the Quattro FFM!
