Thankful for Auto!

Post by jbn3boys » Tue Feb 21, 2012 7:43 am

I just have to say I am SO thankful that I switched over to Auto on my BiPap machine. (And that I have my sleep doc's blessing to do so!)

I switched to auto in December, after increasing my IPAP and EPAP a couple times. I had gotten up to 16.5 IPAP and 13.0 EPAP and was still not getting my AHI consistently under 5.0, and I KNOW I feel better when it is 2.0 or lower.

Take a look at last night's pressure and see why I'm so thankful!

No wonder I wasn't feeling good at 16.5 and 13.0!!

That's great news! Isn't it nice when a change like that works out? Keep us posted.

I've been meaning to get sleepyhead, and start using it--and showing the graphs to my (our) sleep doc.
All our docs could benefit from this data; but they are limited to what the big companies offer them, and the time they can devote to new technology. If we can tutor our docs and their staffs, (those that can learn) think how far this could go.

It is FASCINATING to me that these machines can store so much useful information, and the ONLY thing the medical profession cares about is compliance.

Of course there are some exceptions. I have a great Family Doctor who isn't a sleep doctor at all, but IS interested in data like that and works with me to control the therapy. I know several other examples exist among the people here, but if you (the patient) are NOT technically savvy enough to get the data, there's SO FEW doctors looking at it! All that matters to them is that AHI number, and the compliance (due to insurance more than anything else).

Diabetes patients track blood glucose levels in detail. High blood pressure? You bet that they're interested in detail on it.

But not a PAP patient. Weird.
