Why are you asking about a ResMed hose when your profile shows a Philips machine? You also stated in another post that you have a Philips machine.

Your posts, including those as guest "carpenter1" have started looking strange.

Just know that a lot of spammers and jokers come here making worthless posts. I just wanted to make sure that my time wasn't being wasted by one of those.

My apologies.

Hi Choker,
apology accepted! My understanding is you need to clean everything. I would guess that one would just run hot water through it but would you use soap?

You can use a mild soap for weekly cleaning...

Here are Resmed's instructions for simple cleaning, as well as for disinfection (if you wanted to clean a hose that someone else used or to make an old hose (6 months or older) last a bit longer:

When you get to knowing your way around the forum a little better, you can do a search on cleaning cpap machines. What you will find is the recommendations and practices are all over the map. Some clean almost every day, others almost never. Some use dishwashing soap, others shampoo, others some other stuff. Some soak, some swish. There is no clear cut answer for you. You'll just have to figure out what suits you best.

For non-climateline hoses, I fit the hose end over the faucet in the kitchen sink, and run hot water through it to wash out the inside of the hose. I don't know if the connectors on the climateline are stretchy enough to do this.

I have two hoses and dry my hose out on an old CPAP machine and then let them sit dry for a week, hopefully to cut down on germ growth. If you're not going to store it for a while, drying probably doesn't matter that much because it will get wet the next night when you use it again.

I have been using my hose for several years without cleaning - could be as many as five years.

One day when I am bored I will get a new hose out for use. I will take my old hose and slit it long ways into halves. Then I will go over the inside with a magnifying glass and give it the white glove going over.

I will post the results of my findings.

I'm looking forward to reading your follow up post. I may have to do my own research as well. I don't clean my CPAP equipment on a regular basis either. I do replace the air filters every year or so and replace the pillows on the mask every few months.

I swish mine in hot water and dish detergent, raise and lower each end a few times, then rinse by holding it under running water. I dry it by hanging it from some hooks I have in the laundry room. I doubt it's totally dry by bedtime, but it's close enough. In the morning I leave it hooked up until the machine finishes drying it.

It would be great if you could take a culture sample and see what grows....

Home HVAC systems may last for 20 years.
Many never get cleaned. Oh, my!
As long as a person has normal immunity, too much disinfection could have a detrimental effect on that immunity.
