The 1st four (4) numbers of the Serial Number are the week and year of manufacture.
The rest of the numbers of the Serial Number are used for product identification.

You can compare the date of manufacture to the date you purchased it to tell just how old it was before you bought it.

I would be interested to hear just how long a time span there was from the date of manufacture to the date you purchased it.
Quite interesting, I figured the year was in there but didn't know how to decode the rest.

Made me get up and I had just sat down too.

Mine has a born on date of 2311. I got it in August of 11 so no moss grew on it. Singapore.
I never would have made it without this forum.

My new one is a s9 auto made in Singapore starts off 231114... and it was purchased in Dec 2011 .
The rental one was an S9 Auto from 221110 made in Australia and I'v had it since about Oct.

The Aussie made one has "Autoset Easy Breathe" on the sticker by the power button and the other one has "Autoset EPR" and also says "start/stop"
The Singapore one has newer software as well.

WOW, that is almost 7 months from the date of manufacture (1st week in June 2011) to the date you purchased it in December 2011.

Mind telling me who you purchased it from?

Any idea why they would still have a 7 month old machine in inventory?

The S9 I received last Fri is even older. It was made in AU dated 2211. It says VPAP S on the front. I am taking it back today because it has only recorded events on one session out of the 10 nights and naps I have used it for.
The software is SX474-0903. Is that a current or obsolete version?

What would be an extreme that would keep a person from accepting a machine.

Would a machine being manufactured 7 months before you purchased it be too long of a span? What about 8 months? 9 Months?

Even though any updates to the machine in the manufacturing process would probably be minimal from each week's batch to another week, a lot of changes could have been made to the machines in 7 months (i.e. a machine manufactured 7 months ago may not contain any technological advancements that may be incorporated into a machine manufactured last week).

On 1-5-12, I wrote:

I have subsequently found out from ResMed that is NOT the case.

The 1st 2 digits of the Serial Number are NOT the week of manufacture, but rather they are the place of manufacture.

Depending on who you talk to at ResMed, they still give some conflicting information such as:
The 1st 2 digits of the Serial number are the place of manufacture.
Only the 2nd digit of the Serial number is the place of manufacture. This is the answer I get most often.
If you replace the 2nd digit with a 0, the 1st 4 digits are the year of manufacture.

If the 2nd digit is the place of manufacture, then 2 is Sydney, 3 is Singapore. There are other places of manufacture, but I don't know their codes.

The only way to get the exact date of manufacture is to call ResMed in San Diego, CA (for U.S.) at (858) 836-5000 or (800) 424-0737.
Use the options 1 & 1 for Customer Serivce and 6 & 2 for Technical Support.
I find that the more informed ResMed employees (if there is even such a thing) are in Technical Support.
I also found the wait time to be less when calling the non-toll free number, but the wait time is pretty short at eithr number. I use the non-toll free number only because I have unlimited long distance on my AT&T cell phone plan.

Don't let them tell you their records only include the year of manufacture. That is NOT the case. Tell them you know that they CAN tell you the EXACT date of manufacture.

I purchased what I thought was a new machine from my DME. Price was pretty good. Now I find out it is not new but used (400 hrs). I called Resmed and they said based on the serial number that it was probably manufactured late 2010 (November).

When did the S9 Autoset come out and has there been any updated software since then?

My S9 AutoSet was manufactured in mid October 2011 & it has the SX474-0903 software in it.

I know of 1 person who claims to have just purchased an S9 AutoSet with a SX474-0904 software version. He is supposed to call ResMed to determine when it was manufactured.

Other S9 AutoSet software versions have been 0601 & 0602.
I don't know how they got from 0602 to 0903.

I am going to be getting an S9 Auto \Set in just over a wekk.

Is there an easy way I can check when they are setting it up to see how many hours there are on it to make sure the DME is not selling me a used one. I don't think they are supposed to bu t they gotta do something with those CPAPs that are used for trials and retuned.

How many hours consitute "used." (Just like most cars have a few miles on them and some even as many as 100.) I assume there have to be some for quality control checking.

If the DMe handed me a used one which they represented as new, what do you all recommend that I do (besides insist on a new one)?

Check the "Run Hours" in the "Service" screen.
That number canNOT be changed.
All of their setup should take much less than 1 hour.

Do NOT use the "Used Hours" because that number can be reset to zero at will.

Just refuse to accept it.
Don't leave with it with the promise that they will replace it.
They have more incentive to replace it if the sale has not yet taken place & they are not yet paid for it.

I would also NOT accept a ResMed S9 AutoSet that did not have the most current software version in it (currently SX474-0904). That information is also shown on the "Service" screen.

Can I get to the service screen with just the built in software or does the clinician provider software setup software need to be running?

Yep, mine was exported to the US from Sydney, imported back to Melbourne, then posted to me in Hobart, all for half the cost of what I would have paid if I bought it from Sydney.
Cheers,

Mick.
