HI,I'm new to the forums and have a question, hopefully someone can give me some insight or suggestions.
I have been on CPAP for about 7 years. After fighting it the first two years, now I have no idea how I functioned without it.
I recently switched jobs (in a safety sensitive position), and my new employer wants compliance logs. I'm not really worried about it, except that the last couple days, my machine is showing I only used it 1-2 hours a night, and both days were well over 5 hours. The machine is a Res Med S9. When I look at the last month, it looks like i am OK with what my employer wants to see, but I am concerned as to why its is only showing1-2 hours when I am sleeping and using it 5 or more hours a day?
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Re: Not sure my machine is loggingcorrectly
Sometimes the S9 machines have been known to get "stuck" recording a piece of data. We have seen this fairly often.
Try unplugging your machine from electric source, wait about 30 seconds and plug back in. See what happens after tonight. It won't make retroactive changes but it may change data from tonight.
This works like rebooting your computer when it gets whacko.
If this doesn't help...there may be something wrong with the recording features and since your job is dependent on accurate compliance you might want to check with your supplier about the problem.
There is software available also...do you have ResScan or SleepyHead?

Re: Not sure my machine is loggingcorrectly
The S9 resets the daily data AT noon according to its internal clock.
If you don't sleep during the daytime, then you might want to check the S9's time setting. If the time setting is all screwed up, you could be sleeping across that "noon" reset and waking up a couple of hours into the S9's "new day".
Checking (and resetting) the time requires getting into the clinical menu. It's not that hard to do.

Re: Not sure my machine is loggingcorrectly
Ahhhhhh that may be it! I have been working thirds this week so I have been sleeping during the day. Today, for instance I slept from about 8:00 Am to about 1:10 Pm. yesterday was about 8:45 to about 2:00 so the clock resetting makes some sense. I didn't know about that.robysue wrote:The S9 resets the daily data AT noon according to its internal clock.

As to the software in the first reply, no I don't know anything about it, could you elaborate? Ill try the unplugging thing to be on the safe side. Thanks for the reply's!

ResScan software tutorial here
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/resscan_tutorial/
You can find a link for ResScan in UncleBob's signature memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=38643
You can check my signature for links for SleepyHead. You can use SleepyHead software if you wish.
It works just fine with the ResMed S9 machines.
If you are sleeping at noon...that likely explains the odd hours of use time.
If it is a huge problem you can alter the clock on the S9 so that it doesn't break the day at Noon.
You can make your "day" be at midnight if you normally are a day sleeper so that hours of use are easily seen unbroken.

....
When you woke up at 1:10 pm today, the data for 8:00 AM to noon was added to previous day's data (visible in ResScan), but at noon, the machine reset daily data. So compliance hours show up as 1.5 hours.
If you look at the data in ResScan, all the hours and data will show up, but your daytime sleep sessions will be split across two days.
So the Feb. 14, 2012 data will show yesterday's sleep from noon to 2:00pm on Feb. 14 AND the Feb. 15 sleep from 8:00AM to noon Feb. 15, 2012. Total usage for Feb. 14, 2012 will be 6 hours: The two hours on the afternoon of Feb. 14 AND the four hours on the morning of Feb. 15.
Note that in SleepyHead you can choose to change the time of day that the software uses to split data between days. It won't change what shows up on the S9's LCD display, but it will give you more meaningful data for your individual sleep sessions if you often sleep across 12:00 noon.

Re: Not sure my machine is logging correctly
So when I got home this morning and get ready to sleep, I made a point to check the previous nights sleep and it showed 4 hours. I set an alarm to wake up a few hours later to check , and the time indeed had accumulated against the 4 hour "base line". I went back to sleep, when I woke again (naturally) a little after noon, the machine now showed 0.5 hours, so it appears it is the date resetting, which I am fine with. I would assume my company medical department understands this and take that into account.
Thanks so much for your insights and suggestions, i will probably look into the software, as it seems like this maybe interesting to keep track of.
