No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
I LOVE to sleep in 1-2 days a week... to sleep till 9 or so. I live for those days as I often have to get up between 4:30-6 for work.
But since starting CPAP I can't seem to sleep more then 8-8.5 hrs a night max. Probably because I sleep better now but I miss my extra hours!!
I went to bed around 10:30 last night, woke up briefly at 4am then was wide awake at 6:20. I tried till 6:45 to fall back to sleep but it wasn't happening.
Took my mask off but still unable to fall back to sleep. I was out of bed by 7am on a weekend....this is unheard of in my house!!
Will this be forever?? I feel rested and much less achy but since I only get 6 hrs some nights, I would really like to make it up later

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
I understand. My very favorite sleep time is 6 AM to 8:30 AM. But finally after all these years I am sleeping 6 hours straight thru and once I wake up I am awake - whether I want to be (I don't) or not. I HATE waking up when it is still dark out. I wanna wake up to the sun shining (hopefully). Ingrate that I am I want to wake up feeling rested at 8:30 AM, not wake up feeling rested at 5:30 or 6 AM!!!

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
Its funny that you would post something like this. I've noticed the same thing.
I wonder if it's because while on cpap our body is truly getting the needed rest/restorative sleep without all the apneas/suffocation.
While without cpap our sleep is dragged out considering the fact that the body/brain is deprived of restful/restorative sleep.
Thinking logically.
My 2 cents.

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
I bet Starlette's right. I went from nearly 100% CPAP use to none (because I need a new machine and have no insurance). With the CPAP I could still nap, but not unless I'd been awake at least a few hours. Without it I can often fall asleep again, and my naps end up being much longer most days (when I have time for them).

I'm so jealous of y'all... I'd love to wake up bright eyed and bushy tailled again... Oh well in time I suppose...

Yes, I'm married to man with a bad case of narcolepsy. And yup, I have 3 kids under age 4... Adding OSA just seemed like the right thing to do!

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
Agreed, I do get away with less sleep than before. However I do catnap often; as to waking up "bright eyed and bushy tailed", never happened before
or after CPAP...
or after CPAP...

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
I found that I only need 6-7 hours a night of good quality sleep. Cpap gives me that, so, on weekends I'm up and running while my teenagers are still lounging in their sleep. I would rather sleep less, get quality-refreshed sleep and spend the time doin' honey-do's around the house than sleeping late. Just sayin'

Seeing the same thing here. I if I get more than about 7.5 hours sleep (which I usually don't since xPAP therapy), I'm a walking zombie all day. So with the "right" amount of sleep I feel much better post-therapy. Since I only seem to sleep the amount I need now, it's been better overall.
I hate mornings, totally and completely, so xPAP didn't do anything to help there =(

On mornings when I can allow myself a little extra time in the sack, I don't let being awake stop me.
I listen to Book Radio, and if I sleep, I sleep.
Even if I don't sleep, I rest.

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
The same is true with me. My family can sleep for hours, but I'm done after 6-7. But.........its much better than having bad sleep for longer.
If you enjoy sleeping in, maybe you could just stay up later? I know it will be the same number of hours, but maybe you can fool yourself into thinking you're sleeping in,
because you're getting up later.
And as someone already said, you don't have to be asleep if you want to sleep in.....you can just lay there and relax.

Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
I tried that, was still up betwen 6 and 7. I usually go to bed at 10 and of course woke up before 7, tried going to bed at 11 and 12....still no dice, was up by 7. And I hate mornings too, I am still in my jammys and drinking my coffee at 9 most morningsCountry4ever wrote:The same is true with me. My family can sleep for hours, but I'm done after 6-7. Re: No longer able to sleep in since on CPAP :(
Don't go putting words in my mouth! I NEVER said I woke up "bright-eyed and bushy-tailed"!! "Ain't" never happened and I'm sure it never will. My mind, what's left of it, is awake.
That doesn't mean I'm ready to greet the day by any means. In the "good ole days" ???, before CPAP/VPAP, I woke up in the AM, slithered down the steps to the kitchen snack bar, crawled up onto the bar stool, cracked a Coke Classic, lit a cigarette, sat there in a coma and dared ANYBODY to even breathe the same air I did!! Snarl, snap.
Fortunately, I usually woke an hour before hubby so he was spared the worst of my nasty morning disposition. He's one of "those" people who wakes up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Off to the bathroom, shower, shave, brush teeth, dress and out the door to do the chores. (Probably in self-defense to get away from my glowering). I don't know how he has put up w/me for 46 years!!! Thank God he has 'cause I'm sure a lesser man couldn't ever tolerate living w/me.

@ Slinky - My attitude has never changed about mornings pre/post xpap. Don't look/talk to me till I'm ready to greet the day. I'd just as soon be left alone for at least the first hour to hour and a half. My husband still hasn't learned this rule *sigh*
