I had similar problems at first. I think it was due to post nasal drip. The humidifier loosened everthing up. I started using a saline nasal rinse before bed. It stopped the nighttime choking and also cleared up the daytime cough I had been suffering with for years. My Dr. had prescribed allergy meds for my postnasal drip, but had never mentioned a nasal rinse. Thanks to CPAPTALK I got rid of that annoying and embarassing cough.

How about some specifics...Register and put your equipment into your profile...also...what pressure are you at?

If you will take the time to register, and fill in your profile under equipment (text, please),
we may be able to help figure out what is happening, and why.

Hi KS,
I experienced some irritating choking feelings just the other day. This is what happened and my theory about it. I decided to leave my humidifier off for a night. I was somewhat troubled by the heated air. The cooler air when I first start the machine seemed more comfortable.

But later that night or into the next morning, I felt like my exhalations were being obstructed. Like most people who have snored for awhile...I have redundant tissue in my posterior pharynx. My thinking is that the tissue became swollen from irritation related to low humidity. Doesn't happen if I keep enough humidity...even setting 1. For what it's worth.

I have had the same issues. I just started using my machine about 4 days ago, and every time I am about to fall asleep, I start choking, gagging and feeling like i cant breathe. I was wondering if it was just me, or something caused by the machine. I start at a pressure of 4 and it gets up to 9 in a half hour.

It might help to decrease the ramp time.

4 would choke me. Try starting the pressure at 7. (I would start it at 9 so it does not ramp up.)
