When is time to call it quits?
Re: When is time to call it quits?
Although at this point in my life I am retired, I saw myself in your words. Following this thread closely as well. I wish you only the best... whatever the eventual outcome!

This caught my eye - if you are in the US, and if your doctor will write a letter stating that an ergonomic workstation, chair, or stand-up desk are medically necessary for your health and productivity, then your firm has to provide it under the ADA unless they are so small that they can reasonably say it would be a serious hardship for them to do so. And if you have such a letter, making snide remarks about you being an expensive employee to dissuade you from the request could be construed as intimidation.timeforchange wrote:I did ask about one a while back and the response was they didn't want everyone wanting one. So was the comments about I was an expensive employee, so I figured I would not push my luck.physicsbob wrote:One of the things you could try at work is to get a "stand up" desk/work station ...
"Everyone will want one" does not constitute a serious hardship for them, by the way

Missed these last few posts for some reason.... Oh yes, I realize that. I will know more on that later - I hope. I guess my thinking is it would not benefit me as much. I did raise my home computer for a bit to try standing, and it was very hard to type.RocketGirl wrote:This caught my eye - if you are in the US, and if your doctor will write a letter stating that an ergonomic workstation, chair, or stand-up desk are medically necessary for your health and productivity, then your firm has to provide it under the ADA unless they are so small that they can reasonably say it would be a serious hardship for them to do so. Re: When is time to call it quits?
Just more updates. Finish my sleep study test and waiting to see my SD on the results. But I already know the results of the test. It showed severe daytime sleepiness, so much so the RN told me to be careful driving until I talk to the doctor and see what he has to say about the test. I pretty much passed out when my head hit the pillow... The RN said I was the first person she had seen that was this severe, that most people by mid afternoon were more awake, I was completely opposite, the longer the day went the faster I went to sleep. And I realize that is not the complete test, other things they monitor about how deep of a sleep, ect.

Re: When is time to call it quits?
Well I got the results back and it looks like I fell asleep in less than 1.9 minutes. So Doc said that was a borderline narcolepsy level, however I have no symptoms. This week i started on Ritalin and it seems to work, keeps me awake as well and can concentrate (somewhat) without the side effects I had with provigil.
Now, I have also went to a NS and will be having surgery soon to fuse my C4-C6. While these are two unrelated situations, by having the surgery I should get rid of the headaches and neck pain allowing me to concentrate more during the day. That and hopefully being free of pain med's may help my daytime sleepiness and concentration.
And yes, the surgery is the last result. After 10-12 years of pain, this NS thinks bone spurs are causing my sever pain and it's time to fix that.
So.... in 6 weeks maybe we will know the outcome.
