Removing a PRS1 modem

Post by archangle » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:37 pm

How does the PRS1 modem come off the machine? Does it simply pull off, is it held on by screws, etc.?

Who's had one and removed it? And was the one you removed wireless or wired?

Can you put both the SD memory card and the modem in the machine at the same time?

Well, my machine looks just like yours, even though it's a C-Flex, not an A-Flex. The modem on my machine is wireless (has a little antenna on it) and attaches behind the unit, above the filter.

You asked if the SD card and modem could both be used - that's the setup I have. In fact, I have to take off the modem to get to the SD card slot.

I wondered if it was working, and had my first followup with my doctor after my sleep study and starting to use the CPAP machine. I took the SD card in with me, and he showed me a print out of my previous week's data - so apparently, the data is being transmitted to them!

Thanks, Fizzy. How do you remove it from the machine? Just pull, or is there tab, screws, whatever?

I just pull it straight back toward the wall (assume I'm facing the machine, with the back of the machine facing the wall). When I reinsert the SD card, then I put it back in the opposite direction.

Okay, pictures might make this easier. How the heck do I put them in my post? I've seen them in others. I took 3 pics - one with the modem attached, one with it partially pulled out, one completely pulled out. I just don't know how to get them to you!

Thanks, it sounds like "it snaps in" is the answer I was looking for.

Thanks for your instructions - I'll go ahead and post the pics (if I do it right) There really isn't a "snap", it just slides in and out.

First, the System One with the modem attached (it's that antenna in the back):

Second, the modem partially removed:

Finally, the modem, separated from the System One:

Is the SD card in place while modem is in place? Sounds like it is from what you say. Just wondering because some people scared to remove modem to see if SD card in place so they can check their own data.

Yes, both are in place at the same time. I usually leave the modem sitting on top of the machine when I'm uploading my results into Encore or Sleepyhead - it's a good reminder to reinsert my card! Once, I left it out overnight.

Here's a shot from behind, with the modem removed and the SD card partially ejected:

Do you know if your machine actually shows the little "phone" icon when you press the "Send" button to send the modem data to your DME? They asked me to send my data... and I don't think my modem is working. I don't have any icons that show on my little screen. The modem is a wired modem... I just don't want to show up at next Dr visit without data. She said to bring the machine, SC card, and mask.

@pugsy my RT showed me how to pull the modem out and remove the card. Imagine that

@ FizzyWater How many times have you ejected the card as you put the modem back in. I think it could be a better design.

They are sending out this and an O2 concentrator for my wife tomorrow, Pulse Ox for your CPAP, wonder if Sleepyhead will pull the data?

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but I suspect that the data port the modem uses must be the same data port that the firmware flash upgrade tool uses. I didint know it existed. Can you just pull off the plastic on any ol' PR1 machine to expose the port that the modem attaches to?

Watch the video, the show how to pop the cover off. It is simple.

Too bad there is not a diagram with the data channels on it.
