Durable Medical Equipment. They are the places you go to in order to purchase reusable medical stuff like wheel chairs, c-pap machines and supplies, in-home oxygen, etc.

Some are great, and some are greedy. Like anything, you have to shop around, or duke things out with the workers there to get them to see things your way. For the first six months or so I couldn't stand the respiratory therapist who handles the cpap business at my DME. But I finally confronted her, and once she admitted she knew nothing about ASV's and decided she'd like to learn, she's become an ally and partner.

If you are getting a new machine, or mask, read up so you know what you want, and stand firm, and let them know that they exist to help you rather than you existing to give them profit.

And when you see us write DMEs that's because we exercise ultimate typing efficiency and avoid typing out the longer and more correct "DME suppliers." (In other words, some of us are lazy typists! )
