John. I'm mary and i'll try to make this short. In sept i had a grand mall seizure for over an hr. massive brain swelling on both sides and a heart attact. In all this they have found tht I have centeral SA. I've gone thru 2 sleep studies. never given reults. finally called yesterday and things started happening. the directer told me a cpap will not work. it is worse off then that, I will go back to 3r test tomorrow, and they told me that I would have unit by tues. anything I should know about what to ask for? I've spent the last 6 wks learning everything about cpap but nothin about the other unit. I do have short term memory loss so I tend to get confused about things. I'm really hoping this works and keeps me alive for a bit more.

Start a notebook with your questions so you don't forget to ask things. Leave room under the question to write the answer. Let the doc see you taking notes. Do NOT rush.

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

If you have central apnea you will probably be put on one of two machines that treat it. Keeping it simple, the newest Resmed brand machine is the S9 model and the newest Philips Respironics is the System 1 model. Both are ASV units that treat central apnea. Their full names are long and complicated but the S9 or System 1 are the most advanced models. I'm sure you have many other questions but getting an up-to-date machine is important and I don't want to overwhelm you with too much information at first. As Gumby says, write everything down and ask them to go slowly!

Do not rush, but do not dawdle either or you may end up getting rushed out of the office. Be brief and to the point, but get your questions answered. Stick to business.GumbyCT wrote:Start a notebook with your questions so you don't forget to ask things. Leave room under the question to write the answer. Let the doc see you taking notes.
