Pillows vs. Nasal

Post by portiemom » Wed Jan 25, 2012 6:31 am

If you have always used a Pillow type mask, and then switch to a nasal mask, can your eyes be effected and seem weak and swollen when you rise in the morning? I thought it would be the other way around. Years ago I do remember having swollen and weeping from my tear ducts when I began the Pillow mask, so could this just be an adjustment period? Having a sore feeling in the chest, which seems a bit better today, I think is from having to use muscles and breathe deeper with the Nasal mask? Any and all opinions are very welcome. Thanks a bunch

Did you feel air leaking up towards your eyes? An air leak could have tried out your eyes and made them irritated.

I sometime alternate between the two for various reasons, portiemom. I have had mixed temporary disfigurement around my eyes/face. I think it is due to pressure from lying on the mask straps and possibly leaks into the eyes in addition.

Since starting CPAP, my eyes are dryer even with alternating the nasal and the pillow masks and trying to position the air away from my eyes. Finally, I resolved the problem with using nightly eye lubricant ointment.

Thank you all for your replies, when I began many years ago and since then used the Breeze and Swift fx lt for her my eyes would seep tears and the doc said it's all connected yes, but when my tear duct holes started to whistle UGH that was miserable. Talk about tooting your own horn, it was really freaky, it stopped after about 3 months. I'm just hoping it's that I have to actually breathe now to get the pressure up the nose I was getting from the pillows.
