physical placement of the CPAP

Post by kwcrnp » Fri Jan 20, 2012 6:53 pm

Ok so I'm patiently waiting for my equipment to be delivered and reading everything I can here so I'm prepared. But I want to have an area ready for my new machine.

We have a wonderful king size bed but it takes up a lot of room and I only have a small 6x12 bedside stand. I'd like to put a raised shelf on the top of the stand so I can keep my clock and phone on the stand and the machine on the shelf. Can my machine be 6-8 in above my bed? I know I'll have a heated humidifier (chronic mouth breather) so I don't water running through my tube and choking me!! Or should I put it on the lower shelf (6in off the floor) and run the tubing up to me. Just not sure of what is best with the physical placement of the machine.....

Thanks in advance!!
Kristi

Below if at all possible because of the humidifier... you guessed right. , plus you'll want easy access to the Off/On button.

I have mine sitting on an old wooden choping board on the floor next to the bed. Very rarely get any rainout. Can get a bit dusty and not so easy to access for adjustments but how often do you do that. I never have to turn it on or off as its auto. Once a month I lift it up and give it a dust and a wipe down. If you dont have it below you there will be a rainout problem.

Locate it somewhere you can't pull it off the table if you pull on the hose in your sleep.

Is there a reason to have it on the board? I've had mine on the floor for a year now with no problems.

Thanks everyone....I didn't think it should above me. I'll just have to clean the clutter of the lower shelf (6 in off the floor) and then I can still have my clock and phone on the night stand!

I hope to get it by mid week.... I did well all night at my titration study and felt better the day after. I'm sure I'll have issues but I'm eager to get going and feel better!!

Don't put it next to an open window, I did that last night and I woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of skunk.

I have mine about 1 to 2 feet above my bed on a shelf. Rainout shouldn't be a problem if the humidifier is set low enough; insulating the tube with a cover may help as well.

I agree with archangle - if you are going to put it on a shelf, I would recommend that the shelf have at least a one-inch lip around it so that you can't pull the machine off the shelf...
