Min. vs. Max. in AFLEX mode

Post by hogdaddy » Tue Mar 14, 2006 8:07 am

Thanks far all the good advice on my last post. I had what I call a decent sleep last night. I think I slept uninterrupted from about 2a - 6a, so about four hours. I can tell that my mind is more alert today than it has been for the last few days. I have tried some different settings on my Remstar Auto with C-flex as folks on here have suggested.

I was prescribed a pressure of 8 and when I got the machine they had pre set it for 6-20 in auto. I tried that at first and slept about 4 hours, then tried it in CPAP mode with C-flex enabled and I don't think I slept as well. Someone on here suggested that I should be running in auto with c-flex enabled, so the machine can do its job and suggested I work with the settings, so I tried 6-10 and when I woke up and the machine was operating at 10. Last night I set it to 6-15 and when I woke this morning it was operating at 15 and it was difficult to breathe. I finally realized what was going on and restarted the machine after I had laid there for a while and went down to 6.

Why is it that the machine continues to operate at the max even after I am awake. I thought the auto mode was supposed to be just that and it should adjust itself up and down within that range, not just up. Am I in the wrong mode, I have it running in Aflex, which I assume is Auto (6-15) with C-flex enabled.

If it is at the max (15) when I wake up, should I bump it up to 20.

I ordered the software and card reader, so it should be here today.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Bobby,

It sounds like maybe you're leaking air.

The solfware and MyEncore will show you the max and average leak rate. I don't think I would keep bumping it up until I could see the data.

Maybe leave it at 6 - 12 and make sure the mask is sealed until you can check the data.

Bobby:

ALong with what Jim said, are you leaking thru your mouth?

Is your mouth dried out in the morning?

If you are leaking the machine will go full bore trying to compensate for it.

Good luck,
