We're about to join an Internet Brotherhood with just family as Iran, North Korea and China. What could go wrong here.

You can find out how to battle against the bills (there are two, SOPA and PIPA) here:
http://www.americancensorship.org

Speak up, speak out, and demand that your representatives actually REPRESENT you!

If you're not in the US, complain to your Ministers, your President/Prime Minister and everyone else in your own government, as this WILL impact your online life soon enough.

In a word: Yes!

I used to work in the computer industry. From what I've read, this law *completely* abrogates due process. It takes the possibility of due process out of the equation, removes the legislative and judicial system from the implementation of the law.

It is quite likely that if it survives and is passed into law it would be challenged by various organizations and be struck down by the judicial system. Still the damage to our confidence of a fair and just system would be done.

Yes. I am quite worried.

Not really, that was the longest no-statement statement I've read in a while. They're not taking a stand at all. I want just one candidate or our President to state clearly and completely that they will NOT support either bill. This was just a long-winded "we're not saying where we stand" diatribe.

I'm in!
No internet all day January 18th.
I can do it.
No shopping, no games, no browsing, no chat.
I might just unplug the router.
Sounds like a good day to read; or shop locally.

I saw this on the net a few days back.

If the people who designed and built the internet are against it, I am very afraid of this law.

Goshes. googlenews has had multiple references to it but I haven't bothered to follow the links. Duh. Obviously I should have. I didn't know what SOPA was and I only follow the links to the articles which have a subject that catches my interest. Tsk, tsk. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Johnny.

Short story, if either SOPA or PIPA pass, the entire site could be shut down because of it.
