nasal mask recommendations and comments

Post by safemoneypro » Mon Mar 13, 2006 6:58 am

My current nasal mask is leaving the bridge of my nose red almost like a burn. It is a gel mask from Respironics. They are now recommending the "Comfort Lite", can anyone suggest something.

ResMed's Activa would be my choice.

I have the Comfortgel mask and I have noticed that it does have an adjustment setting for the bridge of the nose. The DME adjusted mine at first and it was too tight on the bridge of my nose, and then I found the little plastic adjustment. Take a look at your manual that (hopefully) came with your mask, it will show you where the adjustment piece is for the bridge of your nose. Also, in the manual it shows how to heat up the gel to "customize" it more to your face. Hope one of these suggestions helps.

After 20 years of just using a plain old silicone mask, I have much admiration for my new Swift Pillow mask....

Activa is about the best nasal mask that most on this forum likes. What you are saying about the red spot is common on a lot of nasal masks. Try tape on where it is rubbing on your nose. A good one I found that works for my wife and me is 3M Microfoam tape...th

Or try a nasal pillow mask like the aura or the swift

I love my mirage activa and my breeze nasal pillows!

Had a time with adjusting my pillows, but the resident RT's on this site corrected my problem.

And who are those resident RT's? All of you who are so experienced and are so helpful and so responsive to all of us who have so many questions!

You have to find this out on your own, but Respironics don't even come close to making the best masks and headgear in my opinion.

Resmed easily surpasses them in design, function and quality. Like I said, you have to find that out on your own.

But I would suggest the UltraMirage2 nasal mask. It is important that the mask be fitted properly and you cannot always go by the sleep lab fitting, most of the time they fit you way too small to reduce leaks but don't care about your comfort.

For several years I used a Small or Standard that the sleep lab had fitted me with, I always had problems with it and nasal congestion afterward. Switched to a large and it was like night and day, don't have to overtighten the headgear and it seals better and I have a lot less nasal congestion.

CPAP.com has a good measuring chart you can use to determine the correct size, nearly everyone has a 12" ruler on hand.
